PC: Orduin of the Tools

Page history last edited by sirnitram@... 14 years, 9 months ago

Azami's comissioned peice here:

The scent of slightly singed hair. The sound of metal clicking together. These preceed Orduin wherever he goes, the sounds and smells of forgework and crafting. Even spotting him, the sense of the forge isn't gone. His hair is short and singed in places, brown in colour where it's not been burnt. Glasses aren't common anywhere, and ones with multie lenses, all set to rotate and several coloured, are even wierder, but they sit on his forehead when he's not working. His eyes are jade green, and sparkle with their own light. His chin shows the sign of several days stubble, save where it no longer grows due to the most noticable feature, the prominant and large burn scar across his face. It vaguely resembles a closed fist's impact, and has clearly not healed properly. It covers most of one side of his face, having narrowly missed his eyes, and extends onto his nose. More shockingly, his right hand is simply missing; the stump has healed over, but there's no sign of the hand that should be there.

If there is a man who has wandered into trouble as much as Orduin Balkinor while having no intentions of greatness, it's hard to say. Guardian of at least one village in Neshumai, part-time local deity of the local road system, and master craftsmen of all things Magitech, he's working against his own cowardice constantly to try and improve matters, up to and including attacking Redthrone in the south. Stories of him mix a touch of awe and a steady flow of laughter, as for each deed of heroism and bravery, three people have tales of the hapless smith's pratfalls, shortcomings, and embarassed stutterings.

Just what he is is a mystery. Though many recall him being an Earth-caste Dragonblooded, or at least seeming to be one, the stony texture to his skin has vanished.

Deeds Of Orduin.

Orduin: 768

Orduin: 769

Orduin: 770

New Year, New enemies.

771 has proven an exciting time for Orduin, even as he attempts to take a break from getting into trouble. Upon rescuing his daughter from Necrosis Of The Soul and apparently killing him(Along with mouthing off to The Silver Prince at the time), he settled into trying to create a relationship, however, tenuous, with his daughter, who like many, regards him as an excessively powerful Anathema.

But all things are destined to change. Following bureacratic business in comleting the wonderous roads of Vir Sidus, romancing his beloved and bringing her into the oft-seperated family he now has, and working with Sol over a very poorly placed Exaltation, the Allmaker has found the East facing a new threat: The Walker In Darkness. The dark lord of death and pestilence marches on Denandsor and it's foundries, and Orduin is part of a motley group trying to survive the city's dangers to prepare it, or if needs must, consign it to history.

Orduin: Artifacts Of The Allmaker

 Family

Atla Balkinor, AKA The Fabulous

Unmistakably a Golden Child, Atla is often out of place in modern culture and confused by many things. Apparently around the age of eleven years old, he nonetheless shows the promise of a Sorcerer three times his age. Orduin seems to have taken the boy in as his son, even sharing his family name(And the curious convention he and his have with the order of such) with the lad as he teaches him about the world today and tries to offer a caring and supportive home despite being a workaholic with no one to help him raise the boy but his own earstwhile apprentices.

The reality is far darker. Atla is not truly flesh, but a Minion Of The Deadly Touch who contains the soul and mind of the son of one of Orduin's previous incarnations as a Solar. The boy had been turned into the war machine known as the Fabulous for a mission of petty revenge, and the crafter now struggles to help the boy adjust into the Second Age of Man and grow into a kind hearted person.

Of the rest of the circle, only Minus the Bear had met him in person. Whatever impact Minus' death had on Atla has not yet been canonically defined.

Path Of The Three Makers.

A cult in the East, the Path Of Three Makers is a small religious order that exults the ways of three legendary crafters. At the pinnacle, the Great Maker, legendary Autochonth, who embodies order and creativity. Midway through is the Immaculate Dragon Pasiap, Maker. Forging the souls of his Exalted, he embodies discipline and humility. The lowest rung, the legendary Least Maker, is said to be a man of glowing gold, who can shape reality with his hands, and who teaches the importance of selfless sacrifice and constant personal growth.

Those ordained to lead prayers of the faithful know the truth: The Least Maker is the Exalt Orduin Balkinor. Yet, despite knowing his nature and his foibles, they see him as something to aspire to: One who, despite many failings that make him human, can acheive greatness and aid thousands.

The Path is reverent and contemplative during Calibration, the only known holy festival. During this time, those who walk the Path seek to create something entirely new, and share it with as many as possible. While not all excel, it produces wonders of art and industry each year. It is strictly required that their unique work of that time not be used for material gain: In honouring Pasiap and the Least, they humbly offer it without thought of self.

Prior Incarnations:

Blackhand Mu, whose creation the Fabulous wrecked havok on the East until it was finally convinced to sequester itself, was one of Orduin's last incarnations. It is primarily known he was motivated by a need for vengeance.

Shining Forge, prior to Blackhand Mu, strove not to advanced magitech and automata, as the later incarnations did, but the process of synthesizing life. His many experiments were wretched creatures who suffered endlessly as he sought to create a perfect creature.

The Living Spell was perhaps the most esoteric and remains the least understood incarnation. The memories only became possible to interperate following Orduin's advancement of comprehension of Essence flows and his work to enhance his own cognitive abilities. It is known he transformed himself fully into a living pattern of Essence, loosely bound to the shard.

Aeron Goldhammer, the first incarnation of Orduin Balkinor, is arguably the most focused. It should come as no surprise his actions evoked disdain even in the days following the Primordial War. He crafted the Beloved Scholar's Blade and sought to enslave those he believed he 'loved', in a sick need to control others as he refused to believe the Primordial threat was over.

Current Goals/Projects:

Prosperity-Inducing Pattern, Great Forks.(Personal attention, acceleration, currently.)

Road and public works, Vir Sidus Empire.

Rebuilding and sanitizing Thorns.

Tropes:

Orduin is heavily inspired by myth and literature.. But also by those lovable tropes.

Orduin himself pretty much defines Non Action Guy with only rare outbursts of Solar-appropriate Badass Bookworm, always associated with his Berserk Button. Generally, it's threatening those who rely on him, or in any way upsetting the object of his romantic desire. While largely retired from it, his earlier years had him as an Adventurer Archaeologist. Early in his career as a Solar, often Just Want To Be Normal. Following the obvious signs of the other Celestials needing his expertise and the flourishes of his creations, has become more comfortable with his power. An often overlooked trait of his is that he's Genre Savvy, quite aware of how things work when champions of death, incarnations of madness, and garden variety villains all work. Occasionally wanders into Dangerous territory when he uses it to exploit an enemy's weaknesses(Necrosis is his main victim here), but generally is just using it to berate anyone who monologues or waits for heros.

His romance(Best to just read the Gameplay Logs) is the definitive odd pairing: He claims to be dating Mars, Incarna of Battle. On the surface, her attitude towards him is classic Well Excuse Me Princess and The High Queen. However, some of Orduin's comments and claims by others who know the gods suggest there might be a touch of The Woman Behind The Queenly Mask.

Soundtrack:

Music that gets me in the mood for various themes in Ord's RP.

Nickelback: Hero.

The epitome of a Second Age song, lamenting that heroes aren't there, not even viewing himself as one. This song underlines Orduin's feelings of inadequecy, best summed up by the line 'Now that the world isn't ending/it's love that I'm sending to you/But it's the love of a hero/And that's why I fear it won't do.'

Meatloaf: I Would Do Anything For Love.

His entire romantic subplot in a song, really.

Unknown: March Of Cambreadth.

While a pacifist at heart, Orduin's got a dark side that thrives on carnage and violence. His Exaltation was prompted, after all, by bashing a guy's head so hard it exploded. So when he goes to war, it's a song with a frankly homicidal chorus.

His normal clothing is a thick, heavy smock, stuffed with tools of the most strange kinds. Several are probably not even working properly, but reside in pockets all the same. Heavy gloves get a place on his belt, and a pair of thick boots sit on his feet, all with signs of heavy use.

Orduin is the most famous of all PCs on Exalted MUSH!
Anyone who doesn't believe me, open your copy of Scroll of Heroes to pg 53 (55 if you have a pdf), and be amazed.
