Nellens Lacata

Imperial Magistrate, Even Blade Master, Walking Target

With the disappearance of the Scarlet Empress, many magistrates fled from their enemies, going to ground and operating in secret, if at all. Nellens Lacata appears to have missed the memos. As other magistrates in the South have disappeared or scaled back their operations, Lacata has stoically picked up the slack, and is now trying to cope with an ad-hoc protectorate that encompasses most of the Realm territories in the South.

What does my PC know about Lacata?

Well, for starters, she's a magistrate and a well-respected martial artist, and has repeatedly demonstrated mastery of Even Blade Style. Martial enthusiasts will easily peg her particular variant as the one taught by Azure Crane.

Those in House Nellens or with reason to be up on the scandals and misery of fellow Dynasts know that she pretty immediately buggered off and retreated from Dynastic society after secondary school at the Spiral Academy and went to go study martial arts instead. No one, least of all Lacata, is quite sure why the Empress decided to make her a magistrate, but she's enjoyed respectable success at the job so far.

Criminals or people with their ear to the ground in the South know that Magistrate Lacata is generally lenient on small crime and independent operators, preferring to roll such into her network of informers, and stabby hell on wheels for bigger, organized operations. Especially if it smells like treason.

What's her deal?

Lacata is your average Jaded Dynast, except then the Empress went and social-fu'ed her into thinking the system could actually work if she and others like her were willing to fight for it. So she has a cause and an ideal now, and a bit of a crush on the Empress, maybe. How long any of those will last under the harsh realities of civil war is anyone's guess.

Good plots for Lacata:

  • Assassination attempts! Because, you know, magistrate.
  • Crime! Because, you know, magistrate.
  • Duels! Because, you know, Even Blade.
  • Stuff that explores the injustice, corruption, etc of the Realm, because challenging characters' conceptions of the world is fun!
