Lumeria: Dangers of the Sunken City

The Legotha, Horrors From Beyond

Two hundred and twelve years after the sinking of the city, Lumeria once again became home to new arrivals. Chased away by the Jadeborn of the ever-expanding city of Lutar, Darkbroods and their Leech God masters broke into Sector 16 of the city quite by accident, at first fearing they had encountered yet another Jadeborn city. But the dark, Forbidden Gods soon realized their bounty and the twisted human survivors were overrun. Yet, as the dark centuries passed, the Legotha, as they were called, began to realize they were not alone.

In appearance, Elder Legotha resemble yeddim-sized slugs. Although not divine like their Forbidden God masters, these Legotha are on par with Second Circle Demons and experienced Celestial Exalted in their prowess. Below these are what are properly termed 'the Legotha' and range in size from ox- to cat-sized slugs and leeches. At the lowest rung are the half-breed Leech Men and human thralls who were once citizens or the descendants of citizens of the city.

Goeth, That Which Consumes

A massive shadowland had consumed most of Lumeria when it sank beneath the waves. Fueled by millions of deaths, the shadowland reached for hundreds of miles underground, subsuming the Darkbroods who lingered nearby and eventually consuming them.

But in time, this vast shadowland receded. The ghosts withdrew, and the evidence of their passing was faint and indistinct. The outer reaches of the city becoming a part of Creation once more, the sectors colonized by the Legotha were populated by gaunt, white-haired humans, barely recognizable as such after their long existence without sun or sky.

Yet for its vast size, Lumeria was as buried in the Underworld as it was in Creation, and few powers of Stygia or the Deathlords even knew of its existence. With no way to detect its presence, the armies of the Deathlords marched back and forth over-top the vast city and never even realized it was there. This would change, however, three hundred years after the sinking of the city...with the coming of Goeth.

A Hekatonchire, immense and timeless, Goeth had plied the Underworld sub-terrain for nearly four thousand years when it came upon the remnants of the Lumerian Shadowland. At first it began to consume the buildings and people it found there without regard, its mind dulled by endless centuries of solitude. But as the city's size and scope began to reveal itself to him, Goeth's mind flickered to wakefulness. Appropriating the shadowland into a personal domain, the Hekatonchire stabilized and reinforced the taint, populating it with specters and wraiths who served him. The shadowland has grown with time, and now sprawls across four entire sectors, with Goeth's minions making endless war upon the other denizens who make Lumeria their home.

The Raksha, Adventurers Out of Space and Time

When the Contagion struck the world, Lumeria as a whole escaped contamination completely. The events of the surface world likely would have rolled past without even alerting its citizens, were it not for a desperate remnant of the Balorian Crusade seeking shelter from the carnage.

In a panic to escape the mass destruction wrought by the Realm Defense Grid, these Raksha tunneled underground, burrowing in a blind rush until they broke through the top of an apartment spire in Sector 57. Mystified by their find and ravenous for the thrilling stories that awaited in an ancient, lost city, the Raksha blasted past the Legotha and the Undead, eventually taking control of a demesne that had formed from the city's sinking.

Transforming an entire quarter-sector into a Freehold, the Delvers in the Dark now delight in answering the constant warfare of Goeth's minions with their own, menacing both Leech man and Ghost alike. Striking out from the Vault, the former Bank of Creation in Lumeria's financial district, the Fair Folk tell a tail of high adventure against inhuman foes deep below the earth. Desperate for fresh, new souls to replace the mind-slaved descendants of Lumeria's human population, the Fair Folk have the nearly infinite riches of the Bank of Creation to trade for human cattle brought down from the surface--or lesser rewards for samplings of Exalted spirit.

The Jadeborn: New Arrivals, Old Hatreds

Recently, new residents have arrived in Lumeria. Jadeborn from Lutar, following the same black jade and adamant veins that had lead to the founding of the city in the first place, broke through into Sector 25 three years ago. Against the better judgment of the expedition's Artisan leader, the workers began to explore the city, tentatively unearthing passages and making their way through the sector. Upon breaking through into Sector 26, however, the Jadeborn found themselves immediately set upon by the Legotha, who recognized their ancient foes. Attempting to retreat, the Jadeborn found that their tunnels leading back to Lutar had been collapsed, and the Legotha swarmed through the natural caverns and rock formations they might have used to escape.

As supplies grow sparse and the Jadeborn become desperate, adventuring bands have struck out from Gammensien, the colony the Jadeborn have made for themselves out of Sector 25. Against the will of the Chaos Seer, who has become corrupted through three long years of desperate defense of his people, these adventuring bands have attempted to reach the surface and bring aid in the form of surface dwellers back to Gammensien with food and supplies. So far, none have returned.
