PCs: Walker of Shadow and Coquette

Place: The House of Cherished Corals

The night is young still, outside the patrons of Nexus have seemed to settle down but everyone knows that in most places, the festivities have just begun. In the House of the Cherished Corals, it is a slow night. By the firelight four musicians play a cello, harp, percussions, and viola. The figure playing the sleek black viola seems to be a little familiar as it is Aurore, the gypsy palm reader. She seems the most distant of all the patrons, lacking any lust for merriment. Instead, she's staring into the crackling fire, seemingly disconnected to the beautiful tune she weaves with her fingertips and bow. Its haunting melody gives insight thoughts... It starts out slow and soft and progresses into sorrow laced with shining beauty. She closes her sad eyes and at once the first impression of disconnected absense from the music is shed, instead what's realized is the trancelike state she must have been in to create such a delicate tapestry of emotion from which the song's notes are pulled from. The pull and tug of her bow across the strings causes her body to move and feel the music. The last stanza of an insturmental piece is punctuated by soft whispered lyrics only audiable to the fire, "So close no matter how far, couldn't be much more from the heart, Forever trusting who we are, No nothing else matters...." She pauses to let the last note ring as her accompanyment finishes theirs, collecting into a soft finish.

-= OOC =- Coquette says, "http://youtube.com/watch?v=rbTozgoj9OQ"

Walker of Shadow is sitting at one of the tables on the main floor, sipping from a china cup that steams enticingly. He

watches the performance with a hint of a smile on his face, seeming caught up in the music. When it ends, the last haunting refrains seeming to stir some memory inside him, he is one of the only patrons to clap, at least at first. Everyone else seems caught up in the beauty of the song, not sure how to react. Walker has no such inhibitions, standing and clapping steadily, if not loudly or fast. He has a smile on his face, though of course you can't see that, his face being covered by his custommary veil. He walks up to the stage and bows, hands thrown wide. He looks back up, eyes twinkling. "Beautiful. That was an exquisite performance, my lady. I was not aware you were so good with music. Please, come back and join me at my table, so that we can talk some more." He gestures back to where he just came from. There is something...different about him, but you can't quite place it.

Coquette is snapped out of the trance-like state by the sound of hands clapping-specifically Walker's. When she finally sees him and recognizes him, a smile crosses her lips. At his invitation she rises and gives him a playful bow to sit her ebony viola down upon the chair she was sitting at. "Thank you. Sorry, I had no idea you were here. I guess I kinda zoned out... But sometimes, I think it's important to lose one's self." Once she takes her seat across from him, her demeanor seems to relax a bit more, being out of the public eye she was so obviously wary of. "You look... different." Another winning smile upon those ruby lips, "You've changed, somehow. Can't put my finger on it. Hair cut? Lose some weight?" She immediately places fresh tea into a cup before pouring boiling water over them. First for him, then for her.

Walker of Shadow nods his head in aquiencence, and accepts the tea before he answers. "It is important to lose one's self, as long as you don't forget. As for how I am different..." He reaches up and pushes his hood back, exposing hair that is almost as dark as hers, which is a big difference from when they last met, when his hair was the color of just picked wheat. He also seems slighter of build somehow. Not a lot, just enough to be noticable. "I changed my hair color. I like it this way. What about you?"

(Judge) Coquette rolls Perception + Awareness: [ 5 6 7 9 ]

        Resulting in 2 successes.

She immediately quirks her head to the side, with a special playful smile of scrutiny, "No, there's something else." She

leans forward, inspecting him a little bit closer, "Tell me or I'll be forced to strip you down here to get others' opinons.

I'll do it too!" She wags a finger playfully at him, that smile growing to a broad laugh, brimming with a giggle.

Walker of Shadow also smiles broadly, and tips his head back and forth, debating on whether or not to tell her. "Fine. I give up. You win. I've been working on a new voice, talking differently." He scratches his head. "Guess it didn't work so well, if you can't even really tell." Now that he mentions it, his voice /is/ different. Not as deep, more musical. He chuckles. "Busted, I guess." He doesn't switch back to the voice you've heard before. Maybe he's still practicing?

Coquette laughs softly, "That's it!" She taps her chin, "Why all of the changes? I like the hair, by the way. Makes your eyes stand out a little bit more." She makes herself comfortable back in her chair again, reaching for her tea to sip at. A few soft puffs of air clear the steam long enough for her to take that sip. "And the voice - I don't know if I could pull off

speaking differently for any amount of time. I think I'd forget." She grins, "Maybe try an accent?"

Walker of Shadow purses his lips in thought. "Well, I just change every once in a while. I get bored with my old look, or

whatever. This most recent change is following a run-in I had with a wierd Terrestrial. I decided that a new look would suit me better. And, as for an accent? I don't really care for accents. Besides, changing my voice is much harder." He also sips at his tea, not cooling it off first, not even wincing as the boiling liquid goes down his throat.

Coquette watches him intently for a moment, "I see." She taps her chin again and shrugs before ordering her meal. "So, the other night, in the bath house... Tell me, how did you get those scars?" She wouldn't have dared ask infront of Narys or while he was nude but the curiosity was killing her. He could tell she's been waiting a while to ask, too, judging by her grin.

Walker of Shadow also begins to grin. He pulls his cloak aside and undoes the buttons on his jacket, pulling it aside and baring his chest. There is no trace of any blemish on his chest. The scars are completely gone, as if they were never there. "What scars? As you can see, I have none." His voice is carefully neurtral, but if she could see the lower half of his face, she'd see him struggling not to laugh. He then goes to reclose his jacket and resettles his cloak, picking up his tea and sipping again as if nothing had happened.

Coquette narrows her eyes at him and smacks his hands away when he tries such things before she licks her thumb and rubs at his neck in disbelief. "You're a slippery little thing...."

Walker of Shadow allows his hands to be smacked and lets her rub at his neck, confident that she won't find anything, because there is nothing to find. He actually is unscarred. "Yes, I am. I've been told that before, too." The grin is now apparent in his voice, as is the laughter. He watches her for a moment, enjoying the feeling of her hand, ignoring the sidelong stares from the other patrons. "Now, on to other matters. I see you took my advice, and are staying here." He gestures around. "How do you like Nexus?"

After she is thoroughly satisfied with the fact the scars were a rouse she shakes her head and smiles, letting him button back up, "Fine, no scars. And here I thought there was going to be a tale to go along with that. But no... There's probably a tale to why you're so slippery though!" She holds up a victorious finger to celebrate her victorious assumption with a laugh, "Well actually I just got back from a quick little trip outside of the city! But, I think I'll be staying now. This city just gets more and more interesting the more I look at the stars."

Walker of Shadow nods sagely. "Yes, this city is interesting. But, I find it's more interesting if you look at the city, not

just the stars." He quickly finishes re-clothing himself. Through the whole inspection, he made sure that his lower face

stayed covered by his scarf.

Coquette smiles, "Not if the stars reveal much about the city." once food has come her way, she splits the tray between them - dishing up for him anything he wants before she takes her own share with plenty to spare. "So tell me - what have you been doing recently? Anything interesting I should know about?" She smiles mischeviously in good humor before she digs into her food.

Walker of Shadow smirks, thinking about all the things he's done in the past few days, the places he's been, and mulls over telling her any of it, weighing it against her continued friendship. "Nope. Not much has happened to me at all." He watches her eat, but doesn't eat himself. He looks around and sees a waiter, and becons him over. Motioning him down, he cups his hand around the man's ear and whispers something to him, then shakes the man's hand, nodding as a smile spreads over the man's face. The waiter scurries off, still smiling.

Coquette watches the exchange, "Not hungry?" She stops mid-bite, wondering if the food was off. She sniffs it curiously with a quirked eyebrow, "Something wrong with it, maybe?" Violet eyes are turned downward to the morsel of food perched upon her chopsticks suspiciously. "Poisoned?" She whispers lowly, quietly so that no one else may hear her question.

Walker of Shadow shakes his head. "No, nothing of the sort. I'm just not hungry. As for the waiter, I merely sent him

for...ah, here he comes." As he speaks, the waiter is hurrying back with a wrapped bottle under his arm, as well as two

glasses. He places it on the table, and the glasses next to it, the whisks the covering off with a flourish, revealing a

bottle of plum wine, perfectly chilled. Walker sits back, waiting for her reaction, and nods at the waiter, who scurries off

again, still smiling.

Coquette grins broadly at him, "You remembered, I'm touched." She laughs and finishes her bite, "Next time we will have to have your favorite." She winks playfully, "Whenever I find out what that is." She grins again at him, "So, believe in fate? Coincidences finding you here, and all. Maybe we were indeed supposed to explore that jungle together after all?"

Walker of Shadow smiles at her delight, and nods acceptance. "Maybe we were. Until then, however, allow me to treat you to your drink, and bask in the pleasure of your company." He picks up his chopsticks and begins eating, deftly slipping the food under his mask, not allowing it to ride up and show his lower face.

Coquette watches him curiously as she picks up her goblet of plum wine to drink, "Why hide the lower part of your face? Can't be comfortable to eat with it on..." After the wine, it's back to the food. And then back to the wine. Oh, how she loves that wine.

Walker of Shadow shrugs, but doesn't remove the mask. "I would rather not remove it in public. It's...complicated, but

suffice it to say that I'd rather be covered, and that the small discomfort is outweighed by the benefits of leaving it on."

He is much more restrained, sipping his wine, and eating his food slowly. Despite this, his glass is empty before hers, and he refills his plate before she has half finished hers, continuing to eat at that slow, measured pace.

Coquette nods, "Understood." She stretches and finishes her dinner within a few bites. Girl has to keep her figure, right? But the wine she still sips on, delighting in every drop inwardly. "So where is your family? Have any around here?"

Walker of Shadow shakes his head sadly. "Unfortunately, no. I never knew my parents, and I was raised by The Guild in Greyfalls, but I'm not really in contact with them anymore." He pauses for a moment before continuing on. "What about you? What's your story?"

"A longer one than one would expect. Like a ball of yarn. Once you tug at it, about halfway through you regret your

curiosity." She grins and chuckles to herself, "I am from this place. Nexus. My family is still here, don't know if they know of my presence. Don't .. really care."

Walker of Shadow finishes his second plate and sets his sticks down carefully, then wipes his mouth with a napkin. He rubs his chin and leans forward interestedly. "Really? Why don't you care whether your family know's you are here?"

"That's part of the long story." She smiles up at him, "I don't mind telling, if you want to know or listen. It's just that

it depresses people. Namely, me." She laughs a little, "Mostly because it just seems to get worse and worse as it progresses - no happy endings here." The wine is loosening her tongue a bit - he can see it in her eyes now as her eyelids droop just a bit.

Walker of Shadow props his elbow on the table and watches her, chin in hand. "Well, that won't do! If it depresses you, you should talk about something else! Come, pick a new topic, one less depressing." He seems to be unaffected by the potent drink, even though he is almost matching her consumption.

Coquette smiles and nods, "Then you. What is /your/ story?" She says playfully, her words beginning to slur together just the tiniest bit. She leans forward, propping her head on the table with both arms as she finishes her second glass of wine.

Walker of Shadow raises his hands, palm up, and shrugs. "My story is equally long, I think. What do you want to know?" He cocks his head at her, awaiting her response.

Coquette thinks for a moment, "I don't mind. I like stories." She smiles and makes herself comfortable there, taking another sip of wine.

(Judge) Coquette rolls Stamina + Resistance: [ 3 7 ]

        Resulting in 1 successes.

Walker of Shadow leans back, also getting comfortable. "Well, as you know, I grew up in Greyfalls. I lived with The Guild, learning The Trade from them, honing and perfecting my craft. I was also tutored in combat, to help me survive in the world. When during puberty, I discovered that I was stronger and faster than most of the rest of my peers, able to do things that they couldn't. Obviously, this made them jealous, and I was kind of ostracized from the group. I was taken in by a senior member of The Guild, who saw my potential and molded me into a fierce, durable man, from the scared child I had been, and I am eternaly grateful to him for that.

I was about 17 when my wanderlust kicked in, and I set off to see the world, bidding my home farewell. I travelled for

several years, taking odd jobs to pay my way, and I walked quite far. I've been as far south as Kirighast, and as far north as Rubylak, but I like the vibrancy of the Scavenger Lands the best, and for the past couple of years, I've been mostly travelling between Nexus and Greyfalls, occasionally visiting The Guild in Greyfalls, when the mood strikes me. And, that's about it. That is, obviously, a slightly abridged version, but that is enough to give you a good idea of my life so far. What do you think?"

Coquette's cheeks have fushed with the consumption of alcohol and her half closed eyes have a glazed expression of joy as she gigles, "I shink yooo are sooo cute." She reachs out and beeps him on the nose, giggling like a little girl.

Walker of Shadow smiles wryly at her antics. "I think you're beautiful. I also think you've had too much to drink. You are inebriated." He reaches forward, as if to take the glass and the bottle from her.

Coquette pouts a little, "Thish happensh eeeeeeeeevery time I have too much plum winesh." She tries to motion with her hands but ends up knocking herself off balance and almost tumbling out of her chair, "Gah!"

Walker of Shadow darts forward almost supernaturally fast, catching her before she can fall. "Careful there, girl. You don't want to hurt yourself, do you?" His hands are strong, gripping her bare arms firmly, but not tightly or too hard. "That's definately enough wine for one night. You need to sober up before you get any more, missy!" He moves the bottle out of her reach, setting her back in her chair and moving his closer, so as to be in range if she falls again.

Coquette giggles and nods, "So, no wife, girlfriend, kids?" Her cheeks are still red and she wobbles a bit when he lets go but her balance is regained quickly

Walker of Shadow shrugs. "Nope, not yet, and no. I'm kind of a loner. Haven't been in one place long enough to get attached to people before. Maybe I'll meet someone, though, now that I'm not wandering as much."

Poor girl has no ability to drink. At all... "I shink sho too!" She leans in and, her aim is a little off but manages a kiss

on the cheek right before she falls to the floor again. Unless he catches her of course.

Walker of Shadow is expecting her to fall, and manages to catch her easily. He props her up and stares at her, a smile

playing across his lips. Holding her in place with one hand, he reaches into his cloak with the other and withdraws a clear vial of equally clear liquid. He dangles it in front of her enticeingly. "This has gone on far enough, I think. This vial

contains a sobering agent made from some of the Eastsouthern plants. If you drink it, it'll sober you up right quick, and

keep you clear headed for the rest of the night. Do you want some?" He looks at her seriously, waiting for a response.

Coquette winces and shakes her head, "No, no, I'll do it the old fashions way." She hiccups a little "Shleep!" She stands, "Perhaps.. in the future!" Hiccup "We shall share another bottle of wine."

Walker of Shadow keeps his hand on her shoulder, just to steady her. He rises with her, and flicks his fingers. The vial

vanishes into his cloak almost as if by magic. "We shall definately have to continue, as you say. And, hopefully, we can share another bottle of wine. Do you need help getting up to your room?" He holds out his other hand, offering support if she needs it.

Coquette smiles and nods, hopping into his arms, "Wee!" She giggles again and directs him up the stairs to her room

Walker of Shadow catches her easily, not even grunting under her weight, and carries her up the stairs to her room as if she weighs nothing. He opens the door, supporting her easily in one arm as he does so. He then deposits her onto the bed and stands there for a moment, smiling down at her. "Good night, Miss Aurore."

Coquette waves her little fingers up at him, smiling broadly before stretching and yawning and... out like a light! Ah,

alcohol.... the beauties thereof.

Walker of Shadow smirks quietly down at her prone form before pulling her covers up to her chin and kissing her gently on the forehead. He then bows to her and backs out of the room, shutting the door behind him. He walks back down to the main floor and pays for the meal, leaving a small tip, before pulling his cloak around him and striding out into the night, still smiling faintly. The half-empty bottle of wine is tucked into one of his volumnious pockets, there to stay until needed again.
