Log: Lookshy Connections and Geomantic Mysteries

Page history last edited by Koal 15 years, 5 months ago

Players: Karal Telimar, Leedal Kyrie, Mnemon Lok, Mnemon Koal

Karal Telimar offers to bring Koal to visit Lookshy and vouch for him there.  Mnemon Lok discovers a geomantic anamoly in his survey maps.

Books. Floor to ceiling, the manse library is walled and filled with books. Massive oaken shelves are bolted into the stone walls all about the circular room, as well as standing free in concentric circles around a central reading area. Soft carpeting, dyed a deep blue, muffles the footsteps of those who search the collections. Richly padded chairs and sofas offer comfort to those who wish to peruse the pages of the volumes kept here. Three narrow windows cast warm light into the deep alcoves they overlook. The rest of the room is lit by golden-toned light globes, eliminating the threat of fire. The shelves are grouped into collections by subject, so that one might find not only the book one was after, but more on the same topic.

Librarians and scribes, either of elemental or demonic or automata nature, can be seen heading down the stairs to the archives, as well as up the stairs to the second level and beyond.

Mnemon Koal is studying in the library, his brow furrowed in canyons of concentration as he attempts to form tiny geometric lines on the design papers before him.

Kyrie's leading Telimar towards the spiral staircases, showing him around as she wrinkles her nose softly and looks down towards Koal, deciding to head down towards him as well. She waves to one of her students as she hrmms for a few moments, looking around to see if there's anyone else there.

Telimar is decked out in his black gunzosha armor, large jade maul depicting a dragon's head strapped to his back as he is lead around by Kyrie. Standing at a rather impressive seven foot in the armor, he stands out quite a bit in a library. However, he doesn't recognize Mnemon Koal, rather just following Kyrie around.

Mnemon Koal looks up from his work at Kyrie's arrival,"Kyrie, it's good to see you. Did you get my report? I was interested on what you thought about the water and food storage issues?" Looks over at Telimar, "Greetings commander Telimar, I didn't realize you were still in town. Are you still in Zuriel's employ?"

"No, I didnt get your report actually.." she admits ruefully, wrinkling her nose as she runs her fingers through her hair as she smiles warmly and sighs softly.

Telimar blinks a little bit, then realizes who it is that has addressed him. "Ahhh, I didn't recognize you at first, Mnemon Koal. I haven't seen you in quite a while." His robotic voice says from under the helmet. "Yes, me and my hundred man unit are still under Zuriel's contract."

Mnemon Lok walks into the Library, an annoyed look on his face, a bundle of large, map scroll cases nocked under one arm and a fine leather bag slung across the other, from where there's occusional 'tinks', like from glass or crystal. He proceeds to a nearby open table, and- "Why is there a Lookshyan soldier in the Library?" he asks, to no one in particular.

"Your a very busy person. It probably got buried on your desk somewhere." Koal says. "I made a list of ideas, that while being somewhat overreaching, include plans which I think would greatly benefit the satrapy. Mnemon Lok has read through them and already pointed out some weak points in my arguments, as well given some suggestions for realistic prioritization if/when resources become available for long term projects."...To Mnemon Lok, "Zuriel hired him Professor Lok. Lookshy is not an enemy at present. Honesty, I wish we had more access to shogunate technology here.""

"Who says we dont have access to shogunate technology?" Kyrie asks curiously, her brows raised as she runs her fingers through her hair. "I'll look for your report, Koal. I was busy with Tsure. We're sort of working on a few projects together, and I have a few of my own.." she admits ruefully before smiling warmly towards Telimar.

Mnemon Lok mms, giving the black-armored figure a suspicious look, before snorting once and shaking his head. "Well. I'm sure it will all be fine, then." With which, he starts popping open maps on the far longer tables- considerably more detailed maps -of the city and the Satrapy.

Telimar smirks a bit at Kyrie from under his helmet, chuckling mechanically. "Oh, you people have some access, no doubt, but Koal is right to want more access to that technology. Lookshy has more technology in one city block than the satrapy has at all. I think my unit has personally doubled the amount here." He chuckles again and looks over to Lok, curiously. "Professor Lok, I am Karal Telimar of the Dragonmaw Gunzosha, part of the defense force hired by Commander Zuriel. I will try to not disturb you while I am here."

Mnemon Lok gives the giant, metalic man-monster-machine a frankly disbelieving look at the last statement. "Naturally. That's why you don't clank when you walk. Concern my delicate sensibilities. It's noted and appreciated," he replies sourly, shaking his head as he pulls out a collection of ink pots and polished crystals of various sizes.

Mnemon Koal nods. "I'm afraid Telimar is correct and it is no secret. My hope is that one day tensions will not be so high between the Realm and Lookshy...there's been no major conflict in my lifetime, so maybe Lookshy will join the Realm someday." To Kyrie,"I intend to visit Tsure's workshop later in the week. Maybe she'll have some ideas also."

"That would be good actually.." she says with a warm smile, running her fingers through her hair once more as she eases back down in a table not too far from Koal and Lok. It seems the tour will have to wait. "So, what brings everyone to the library?"

"Longer tables," Lok says, biting his lip as he studies the map through one of the crystals, and painstakingly starts to add new lines- mostly green, with some white and some black -crisscrossing wildly across the region.

Mnemon Koal points down at his drawings, his eyes shining like diamonds, and then over to the much higher quality work that Mnemon Lok is doing. "Geomantic engineering designs. We're trying to come up with ideas in how to improve the satrapy over the long term."

Telimar smirks at Lok, turns on the stealth features, muting the noise his armor makes till it is nearly inaudible. "Yes, Koal. A day when Lookshy and the Realm could get along would be a grand day, indeed. Still, I do not have high hopes. There are just too many ignorant Dynasts just as there are stubborn Lookshyans. If such a thing happens, it will probably not be in my lifetime."

"Given the considerably shorter duration you've put on that span," Lok says, without looking up, "That does seem likely."

"Do you accept visits from Dynasts? If I wanted to take a week's vacation viewing the sights, would I be let in the gates? My impression was that it was still dangerous for a “dynast” to visit." Koal says."

"Yes, it is not very safe." Telimar admits with a mechanical sigh. "However, me and my unit are returning for a time after Calibration has ended. If you wish to get a view of the city, I think your best bet would be to accompany us there. At least then, you will have someone who knows about the city and can plead for your trustworthiness."

Mnemon Lok returns his attention entirely to geomantic sketches. Occasionally, he trades out one crystal for another- peering through them with one eye pinched shut, as if he were looking through a telescope.

Mnemon Koal 's attention fixes completely on Telimar. "If you mean what you say, I would be honored to accompany you. It is too good an opportunity to turn down. Please let me know what I will need to do to follow proper etiquette there."

"Of course. The biggest thing, is never, ever bring up religion... Ever." Telimar says firmly, looking at the man. "It will only end in arguments and problems of al sorts. Also, there is some kind of new religion in there called The Zeran. I don't know much about it, but I hear they can be rather strange. So I would keep an eye on that."

Mnemon Lok mms for a moment, then sighs and calls, "Koal, could you come over here a moment?"

"Thank you. I'll try to keep that in mind." walks over to Lok's maps, looking them over, and obviously not sure what they represent."

Mnemon Lok picks up one of the pieces of quartz, handing it to Koal. "Look through this. Tell me what you see."

     Mnemon Koal looks.

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok says, "Ah, well. In that case, it looks like it's embedded with shiney lines, like pieces of string are running throgh it."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kyrie will look too!

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok says, "Kyrie, if you look throgh the gems, same thing."

Mnemon Koal seems confused. "What am I supposed to be seeing professor? I can see some impurities,...this is one of the paperweights form your office isn't it?"

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok says, "Right, same thing- as in, it looks like it's embedded with shiney lines. :)"

Mnemon Lok shakes his head slightly, although he's clearly a little impressed. "Those aren't impurities. They're impressions of essence flows. These gems," he says, waving at the collection "-are specially treated and cut to be able to capture such impressions. But this doesn't make sense," he says, taking the gem from Koal's hand and putting it back on the map. Faintly, a green line running north curves weirdly- bending at a far sharper angle than any other line on the map.

Telimar watches them curiously, not saying anything for the moment. He stretches silently, each step completely quiet as he moves closer to them.

"You mean they can be used to help in geomantic surveys?", Koal says."

Mnemon Lok mms, nodding. "Just so. They're clever devices- my own design," he says with a note of pride. Then, more darkly, "Whatever that bastard Ledaal Valis claims." He shakes his head in frustration, then goes back into teacher mode. "They fundamentally serve as a means to get momentary impressions of essence flows, which can then be inscribed onto a survey- such as these," He pauses, indicating the maps.

Mnemon Koal seems impressed, yet doubtful. "That's wonderful...too bad we don't have an enchanted map to record the readings with any accuracy. But this is still really good as rough map should still work for our purposes. I'd also like to mention that our cousin Karashi is the strategos of the Calhar province. If you want a place to work on surveying techniques, that might also be a place to go...although it is quite wild."

Telimar listens to all of this curiously, wondering how such a thing works but not wishing to interrupt the professor at all. He keeps close to them, looking at the map with silent respect. Takes a lot of work to survey normally. That type of item would be a vast boon and he inwardly applauds the man for inventing the item.

Mnemon Lok makes a face at the prospect. "No, thank you. Greyfalls is quiet uncivilized enough. And such a map as you describe would be helpful, but is also a piece of artifice beyond my skills." He grimaces, his mouth drawing to a sour line. "Some things require the Exalted to do."

-= OOC =- Mnemon Koal says, "you can probably see the famous manses on the map, no unclaimed/uncapped manses are noted in the entire satrapy...if you were hoping to make a quick land purchase to get rich Telimar, there is nothing here for you"

-= OOC =- Karal Telimar pfff. "I am plenty rich as is. I don't need money." :P

-= OOC =- Karal Telimar was more interested in the little item more so than the maps anyhow.

"I'll talk to Tsure about it later in the week. Maybe I can find a way to convince her to help us." says Koal. "She's always so busy like Kyrie, that it is sometimes difficult to get a word in...." turns to Kyrie apologetically," No offense intended.""

"Sure," Lok says, almost resigned. "That'll be one more thing that I won't be necessary for," he says, before shrugging. "Meanwhile, however- look," he says, tapping the bent green line. "That's not normal."

Kyrie lets out a hearty chuckle as she runs her fingers through her hair and smiles warmly towards Koal. "It's quite all right. Tsure and I are working on something that would increase the defenses of the satrapy. But we're working on a prototype for Logos.." she says with a bright smile.

Telimar smiles for a bit and looks at the pair of men. "Well, I must take my leave of you fine gentlemen for now." He offers a bow to them and then turns to Kyrie. "My lady, I will be around and it shouldn't be hard to find me. Just ask for the walking suit of plate and I am sure people will point you in the right direction." He says with a smirk. "For now, my armor requires maintenances and I shall tend to them."

"Farewell Commander Telimar. Till the first week after calibration. I'll make sure to try and arrange some spare time in the Venerable Lotus Teahouse for us to discuss things if you have leave time when you’re not guarding Cathak Palace." Koal says."

Mnemon Lok mms to himself, before shrugging, giving the crystal another look. "Well. Maybe I'm just wrong," he says, somewhat skeptically.

Mnemon Koal turns to Lok confused. "Do you know why that line looks strange? What might do that?"...to Kyrie, "Maybe Tsure will reveal your little secret.", he smiles, his grey chisseled features cracking ,"But she does have a flare for surprises, so maybe not."

Mnemon Lok shrugs slightly, giving Koal a glare. "I /don't/ know why the line looks strange, Koal," he says, slowly, carefully enunciating each word. "That's what I've been saying for the past several minutes. I was hoping it was just a quirk of the map, from not being able to unroll it completely in my office."

"Oh", Koal seems nonplussed. "You could just go there to take a reading. It would be a good exercise for the geomancy class to attempt basic techniques. We could even split up into teams to compare our maps afterwards.""

Mnemon Lok frowns slightly at the idea, flicking the end of his nose. "I don't really like field work, and field work with a group of novices is just a huge pain," he replies, drumming his fingers. "And no one in the class knows enough to even use the tools yet, in any meaningful way."

     "Oh"..Koal seems really disappointed."

Mnemon Lok sighs, and shakes his head, packing the gems away. "Well, it may come to an expedition, in any event," he says. "Certainly, I can't imagine how else to find what is causing that bend."

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok needs to head out soon, himself.

-= OOC =- Mnemon Koal says, "ok, that is a good cut off point"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kyrie noodles. "Sorry."

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok says, "Sokay :)"

-= OOC =- Mnemon Koal says, "that's ok kyrie, just don't forget to recc :)"

-= OOC =- Mnemon Koal says, "can I log it on the wiki??"

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok doesn't see much log worthy, really :)

-= OOC =- Mnemon Lok yawns, and poofs.

Mnemon Lok has disconnected.

-= OOC =- Mnemon Koal says, "are you kidding, I got into Lookshy, and we possibly have an adventure hook to find a hidden demense no one noticed..or something worse and worth an adventure if someone wants to run it....then you can have your quote "This is why I don't do fieldwork!!""
