Log: Koal's Sacrifice

Page history last edited by Richard Hughes 15 years, 5 months ago

Who: Mnemon Koal

Run by: Ledaal Kyrie (2 xp)

Mnemon Koal 's jade family regalia sparkles sparingly as unusual wind patterns pass overhead the entrance to the maze, his military uniform covering all but the pieces sticking out at the edges. His grand goremaul rests casually against his back. He glances once at Kyrie before entering, a calm and serene look on his face, like the marble statues of Immaculate monks that some villagers in outlying lands sometimes make in a heretical fashion to honor those who have saved them from some unknown fate. No more words are needed, because the lesson is to know oneself, and sometimes silence is the only answer, even in the face of the howling winds.

Kyrie and the other members of staff have looked through his history and are watching him go through the maze. The maze itself is simple, and considering his martial prowess, they decided to not test it considering he has accomplished so much already. If anything, they're looking to see his intelligence and his creative thinking skills. The maze itself is difficult to navigate. The manse is dark and there are no candles or lights. What's going to happen?

Mnemon Koal draws on the power of Pasiap to warn him of coming threats, not knowing that the test does not involve life threatening combat...or what might be so to a lesser warrior. He moves forward cautiously, his Hearthstone glinting in the fading light like a tiny star appearing in the night sky.

A slight breeze can be felt to the left. A trap is right in front of him. Spikes. Really sharp spikes. How does he sense it? How does he go around it? That's the only way to go. He triggered something and the floor shifts. As an earth aspect, he'll 'feel' the danger in front of him.

Mnemon Koal acts without thinking, slamming his Grand Goremaul into the center of the spike trap in an attempt to find a hold before the twisting room draws him away into the darkness.

And he's able to make it over. Now there's three possible directions. What is he going to do?

Mnemon Koal takes a momen to wait and compose himself. If this is the entrance to the manse, then maybe he can sense the essence flows and follow them to their source. Also, this maze has a lot of stone in it, and he is no stranger to construction. Koal's anima activates as he attunes himself with the stone around him and attempts to use the flickering plays of essence to help in navigation and understanding the structural foundation of the maze. The first law of sorcery that Lady Mnemon instills in her descendants is that all is essence...maybe all he has to do is follow a path to a hearthstone?

Mnemon Koal realizes it simply isn't going to be any use. He senses only tiny tremors of intuition before they are disrupted, winds echoing down the passage back toward what he assumes is still the entrance to the manse. He heads down the center passage, slowly and cautiously, gently using his grand goremaul as a walking stick, and ignoring the passage of time.

It takes a while to really notice where the winds are going. The task was to find your way through the manse after all, from one side to another. Of the three paths, the center one has a stronger movement, indicative of fresh air. However, that's the one where something is growling and screams can be heard..

Mnemon Koal  loses himself in a moment that stretches to hours, peaceful contentment etching his chisseled feature, not that there is anyone to see in this light. No more does he rely on his eyes to see, for they can deceive him. His connection to Pasiap and his maul to himself is enough as he acts as a mystical fulcrum, the Grand Goremaul becoming a divining rod for his progress, his base the foundation of Creation itself. He heads firmly down the center path to face what may come, not turning aside regardless of what may lie before him.

The screams can be heard. It's a woman. There's lots of screams. And the voice is familiar somewhat. It should be to Koal at least....

         The voice. It's Tsure!

Mnemon Koal springs forward, a rolling ball of thunder like a boulder rolling down the Imperial Mountain. He doesn't bother to think what she would be doing here.

He runs and runs, but her screams can be heard still in the distance. It's a straight shot down the hall, but her voice is always still the same distance. What's going on?

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kyrie says, "At this point, Kyrie and the rest of the professors dont know what's going on. The manse is in control. It's creepy ^_^"

Mnemon Koal won't stand for it. If Tsure visited and got trapped while approaching the Manse, and is in danger now, then the entrance exam is meaningless. He would rather sacrifice his chance of pursuing sorcery than let her die in a fit of pride. He can't simply use wind-carried words because the winds seem like they cannot be trusted here. Without a moment's hesitation, he unleashes his full force and the maze shudders, walls disintegrating like a sledge hammer striking paper machee and rubble falling down on top of him. Even while he is being buried alive he uses the break in the maze to scream calls for aide on wind-carried words to those who might come to aide from the manse or might be waiting outside (if they actually waited this long, it's been hours), "Tsure has wandered into the maze and is in danger, give her aide for I cannot."

And suddenly, he finds himself on the other side. Surrounding him are the professors, all dressed in the savant's robes best representing their houses. Kyrie steps forward, her brows raised and curtsies. "Do not speak of what happened inside the manse. That is for you to know. The manse itself tests your dedication, and because you have made it out, it deemed you worthy to pursue the path of sorcery. Congratulations, Mnemon Koal.."

Mnemon Koal sighs in relief, clearly taking a moment to regain his inner composure before peace once again settles over him. He nods at Kyrie's words. ,"I am less worried about the studies after /that/ test." He bows in return to everyone and let's them lead him back to the manse to get the overview of where he will be studying and working in his time there.

"It will be difficult, but we think you can pass. You showed patience. Besides, you were there for almost a full day. Go and rest, and we shall continue things soon.." she explains while patting him gently on the shoulders as she looks towards Koal. "Would you like to know how we will guide you through the path to sorcery?"

Koal says, "Of course. A smart architect makes plans beforehand and doesn't just wander on site. An overview beforehand will help me place everything in perspective.""

"Come, let us go to my office then.." Kyrie replies with a bright smile as she runs her fingers through her hair, sighing softly as she seems a bit fatigued, wanting to make sure everything was safe.

Mnemon Koal seems to be at peace now. A sense of stability radiates out from him as strong as you've ever felt...you've worked with the minds of the insane...this is its opposite. He nods the affirmative and for once you see a smile that doesn't seem to split his face in an unruly manner.
