Synopsis: Two godblooded, one exalt, and one plucky mortal help foil an assasination attemp on Nellens Rombulac's life.

Once every season, Nellens Rombulac asks for all of the governors of towns in the satrapy to personally meet him and update him on the going on in the region. This allows to keep close tabs on the area outside of the city itself, as well provide him the chance to give an informal evaluation on each of the dozens of governors. The day of the meetings is always one of heightened security, as Satrap's Ministry opens its doors to often strange and unusual folk. The governors are permitted entourages or bodyguards, and many times these bodyguards are such suspicious mercenary characters that the Satrapy requires more guards than usual simply to ensure that they aren't a danger. This day proves to be no exception either, as waiting hall outside Rombulac's office is filled with over dozens people.

Xue Yu stays in step behind Lookshy's ambassador along with a trio of more senior Gunzosha, standing in the rear right of a square formation...she glances around side to side as she marches along, though her helmet doesn't shift as she does so, opaque crystal visor hiding those looks. ...great, another party...just her environment.
Fourth Spear of Rage relaxes against a wall, one hand lightly on his lance, his shield strapped to the other. he gives every impression to total unconcern almost to the point of laxness, but occasionally looks around to see how things are coming along.
Something about Serendipity screams innocent bystander today, despite the chainmail between layers of her kimono. She's standing in a hallway, looking out of place but not uncomfortable, watching all the important people and their bodyguards with interest. It's a real education, watching Dynasts interact, and from her small smile, she finds the whole hullaballoo bemusing. Slowly she wanders from place to place, between parties, soaking all the interaction in like a flower basking in the sweet sunlight.
Gentle Turtle is one of the monks present to help keep the peace, his presence personally requested by the vartabed. His presence is the exact opposite of intimidating, but Sister Cloud Hands knows well his prowess; should something happen, she imagines he'll be capable of handling it. Arms folded before him, the Water Aspect standing in no one place for very long, nervously fidgeting and walking back and forth with unnatural swiftness. He does not handle people well by default, and this situation is no exception. No one talks to him, and he doesn't talk to anyone.
Rombulac meets with each governor personally, a task that can take mere minutes or hours, depending on the personality of each official. Some will report nothing, even if undead zombies terrorize his town, while others will complain on length for every sick cow and chick his town suffers from. To keep the other governors entertained, food and refreshments are offered in the waiting hall. The wandering servants coming in and out to replace the food and drinks only serve to add more to the crowd of people. All of people present are permitted to keep their weapons and armor at least, while in the hall. Before passing through the large, red-painted double doors that lead to Rombulac's office, all of the governors bodyguards are stopped and made to wait outside.

Dusk comes early in the season of water, and already the sun has vanished beyond the horizon from the day. Many of the governors have already concluded their businesses, and them and their entourage have left Greyfalls for their hometowns. Still, while the crowd is thining, there are still people plenty waiting to meet with Rombulac. Someone must have opened a window, for the night mist is slowly settling into the room. An unusual occurance, given that this is not mist-town, but not completely unheard of in this season.
The more perceptive of individuals though, can notice that none of the windows are actually openable.

And all grow a bit more alert in their stances, rather than the more lax posture of subtle disrespect they tend to fall into in the midst of Dynastic parties...

With his senses so attuned to the currents of air, it is relatively easy for Gentle Turtle to detect that something is amiss; there is no air coming from the windows, and besides, a closer examination reveals that they can't even be opened. "Oh d-d-dear," he says to himself, his paranoid, nervous mind immediately leaping to the conclusion that this must be the work of the Mask of Winters - he's the only deathlord widely known in Creation, after all, and certainly the most open and flamboyant. This is an unnatural mist! He says nothing, not wishing to incite a panic, but he's wary. Something must be coming! Not the deathlord himself, but perhaps a minion.
Serendipity raises her eyebrows at the mists, her sharp senses taken them, and the unopened windows, in with ease, and thus she slowly makes her way through the remaining people towards Gentle Turtle, the only person in the room that she recognizes. There, she bows, politely, and says softly, so as to not disturb the partygoers, "Honorable monk, I think demons are at work here, creating this fel mist. Perhaps someone should be warned?"
Fourth Spear of Rage frowns as he notices the mist and begins to take more careful stock of the situation, letting his body relax into the comfortable stance that he uses to prepare for combat. Looking around, he tries to spot anyone who might be manipulating essence to such an end.

"D-d-demons? I was sure it was..." Well, his assumptions were kind of silly, now that he examines them after an alternative has been proposed; the Mask of Winters, said to be in Thorns, sending mist to an unimportant city like Greyfalls? "...w-well, we don't want to p-p-panic. Musn't p-panic," he says, seeming to be doing just that himself. Swiftly performing a few katas, the monk assumes the form of the Air Dragon, preparing for trouble. "W-well, l-l-let's go." He'll move, along with Serendipity, to warn people to be alert and call out if they see anything..strange.

Inevitably it is Serendipity, despite the fact that she's essentially a nameless peasant, who gets to play Paul Revere with the guests and their bodyguards, pointing out the impending weirdness of the mist... because she knows how to, well, talk. So, with all the politeness she can muster, she does a lot of bowing and scraping and informing, one person at a time.
The guards take the advice to heart, despite the fact the Serendipity is but a nameless peasant who shouldn't even be here in the first place. More guards are called into the room, watching the place carefully, and the other doors are opened for the mist to dissapate, although they seem not to do so. The end effect though, is that there are now more bodies moving around in the obuscuring mist, and all those who lack supernatural vision find themselves having a hard time seeing in the fog.
Xue Yu pages: I'm going to assume you have full control over the other Gunzosha and the ambassador, of course...I'd assume that, if bad things happen, they'd focus on getting him to safety?
Fourth Spear of Rage quickly gets fed up with all the searching around in the mist and makes a quick decision. If things are going to get troublesome soon, his first job would be to protect the Satrap. Rather than rushing around and trying to find the source of the problem, he instead goes and tries to locate his charge.

Xue Yu moves to unsling her daiklave, but keeps it held in a non-aggressive position, at her side, even as she and her fellow Gunzosha move to surround the Lookshyan ambassador in a diamond formation, Flame Lances at the ready...
The inner doors open, and another governor steps out. His attendants quickly find him, and the group leaves. The Satrap Guards call out for the Lookshyan ambassador to come forth, and he does, along with his Gunzosha bodyguards. Needless to say, the power-armor clad troops are prevented from going past the inner doors, or even getting too close to them.
Serendipity pulls her staff off of her back, and leans on it, in a combat-ready position yet perfectly relaxed, simultaneously, channeling the awesome power of years of training to be at her ease. She closes her eyes to listen to the room, gradually attuning herself to the 'normal' sounds of the party, so that when she reveals her green gaze again, she can recognize noises that will be out of the ordinary.

"P-p-please stay calm, e-everyone," the timid monk says, quite possibly the only person in the room not finding himself inconvenienced by the sight-obscuring mist. "T-there's n-n-nothing to fear, you're all in g-good hands." It's a poor thing to say; he doesn't even sound convinced of it himself, although he _is_ certainly protection of the highest quality, he simply cannot convey that nor does he believe it.

The monk known as Gentle Turtle notices an odd sight as the Lookshyan ambassador enters the office. Were there two Lookshy ambassadors? All the other governors entered alone, and while the Lookshy ambassador left his gunzosha guards behind, there is an odd individual dressed entirely in black shadowing the ambassador as he enters. No one else is stopping him though... so he /must/ belong there, right?

Gentle Turtle is humble and timid and has a speech impediment, but that doesn't mean he's slow; he's actually rather quick-witted. It takes him no time at all to realize that the rest of the people around are having difficulty seeing, and it's a good guess no one has seen that darkly-dressed second figure. Fading from sight, the little monk moves to sneak up on the figure and examine him more, intervening should something happen.

Fourth Spear of Rage moves to position himself between the shadowy figure and the Satrap...just in case.
Serendipity obliviously continues to wander through the mist, keeping an eye on people. When Turtle fades from view, she isn't particularly concerned, knowing, or at least assuming, his good intentions.
The Satrap's guards fail to notice the shadowy figure, or the now invisible Immaculate. But they do not overlook Fourth Spear of Rage, who appear to them as a suspicious, and armed figure. "Step back from the door untill you are called for." They warn him in a tone of menace.
Xue Yu stands around.

Inside the office, the Lookshyan ambassador bows greets Rombulac, and the two men get down to dry, uninteresting politics. The shadowy figure is unnoticed by either men, and not commented upon at all. He calmly begins to walk around, to behind Rombulac's seat.
Fourth Spear of Rage considers things for a moment, and then decides that sometimes you just have to annoy the hired help. "Many excusings, but I have no time for explanations," he says briefly to the guards, before vaulting past them and into the office straight towards the shadowy figure.
Now THIS is not an act that is unnoticed at all. Rombulac leaps up from his seat and demands an explaination, why the Lookshyan ambassador calls out for his guards. The Gunzosha soldier push their way into the room as well, beckoned by their master, before the Satrapy Guards could think to stop them. The guards out in the waiting hall have all drawn their weapons, and the sound of drawn steel in the obscuring mist only causes panic and confusion, followed by more sounds of drawn weapons.

Xue Yu moves to fall into rapid step alongside her comrades, casually shoving the mere mortal guard on her side out of the way a bit as she does so, falling into a protective position with her fellow Gunzosha around the ambassador as she does so, sword up in a defensive position between the man and the guards, Fourth, and anyone else, for that matter.

As the chaos breaks out, Starlit Serendipity's response is immediate and almost instantaneous: rather than rushing the office like everyone else, she goes back to the main door where, presumably, any sneakers-in snuck in in the first place, since the windows are unopenable. She ventures a peek outside, then takes up station, just waiting for either someone trying to escape or someone suspicious trying to get in. That staff is just waiting to come down, superfast, and trip someone as they try to go through.
The unnoticed assasin appears to be as stunned by this sudden jump as anyone else. Still, he seems relieved to find that the guard's attentions are focused on Fourth, and not on himself. He goes back to completing his assignment, and draws a short blade with one hand and aims for the small of Rombulac's back.
Gentle Turtle is quietly and nervously watching the events unfolding, waiting for the shadowy figure to do something, chakram in hand just in case; then Fourth barges in and leaps at him (and he just so happens to be behind Rombulac), and we can all see how /that'd/ be interpreted. Thus from the shadows four blue flashes fly, aimed just so that the blunt parts, not the sharpened edges, will strike - strike Fourth /and/ the assassin.

Fourth Spear of Rage goes over the table with uncanny speed, ignoring the guards and all other distractions, figuring he'll deal with that later as his image seems to split in mid-air, his lance taking four different paths to strike at the figure with clean grace and beauty.

Despite surprise from Fourth's sudden invasion and assault, the hidden assasin keeps to his goal and plunges the short sword at Rombulac. As he does so, everyone in the room is finally able to see him, whatever charm having kept him shrouded appearantly broken. Perhaps Fourth distracted him, however, for despite having surprise on his side, the assasin appears to miss his target widely. Having failed in his mission, he brings up his blade to guard from the Fourth's fierce attacks.

Turtle's hand reaches out to fling the chakram, but Fourth moves with impossible speed and grace, incapacitating the assassin swiftly - perhaps he's not an enemy; the monk's hand is stayed. However, he does rush near Rombulac, the invisibility fading as he does so, seemingly popping out of thin air - quite a shock to anyone around, naturally. Immediately he moves for the Satrap's back, examing his back and reaching into a small pouch full of medical supplies at his side.

At the sight (rapid as they may be) of chakrams flying, the Gunzosha lose their patience. One of them moves to physically hustle the Lookshyan ambassador back out the door into the main room, two more retreating to take positions at the front and back, placing themselves between said ambassador and the rest of both rooms, and the last, Xue Yu, moving to cover the retreat, moving three steps behind, as an additional buffer between the action and the rest. "Gunzosha, we are LEAVING!", comes the words of the stern-voiced senior officer, while the other three work in silence, weapons raised and ready...

Rombulac backs away from the suddenly appearing Turtle, having had quite enough surprises for one night. Turtle might be robed as an immaculate, but the surprise is still not appreciated. "Get away from me. Guards! Guards! Where you are incompetent fools? Detain everybody! No one is to leave untill we get to the bottom of this!"
His voice echoes and carries out to the hall, where the guards are already reaction, and panicked guests are shouting even further. It seems though, that some individuals have very immediate and very obvious objections to this command. Two individuals dash out of the outer doors before the sentence is even finished, one of them tripped by Serendipity's unexpected stick. The other paused, as if to help the fallen man, but decided instead to keep running. More obviously though, two other men leapt through the windows of the main hall, shattering the glass. There is a trail of blazing footprints on the rooftops as they flee.

Serendipity, the innocent-looking priesty bystander, unfurls her nine-section staff with a SNAP and trips one of the fellows as they try to run; then she's off like a shot after the other one, leaving the downed fellow to be detained by guards, unless they're too incompetent to do so. The guys who smashed through the windows, she's aware of, but as she can only be in one place at a time, she's on the heels of the one who ran past her, violet braid streaming in the wind generated in her wake. Good thing those hakama don't limit her mobility... on the other hand, perhaps that was her point.

"P-p-pardon me," Gentle Turtle says apologetically to Rombulac, putting the medical supplies away after the dragon-blooded manages to stand up and appear just fine. Sensing the sudden movements on the air and the rush as the windows are broken, he turns away and begins to sprint at unnatural speeds, moving with the grace of wind over the ocean. He'll move towards one of the windows and head to the rooftops as well, chakram once more in hand.

Xue Yu isn't quite so showy in her essence as the monk, but at a snapped order from the Ambassador, she reverses her pace and sprints forward, leaps up and over the table in front of the satrap as easily as if she'd just vaulted a humble footrest, then leaps out the window and onto the rooftop, moving impossibly fluidly yet powerfully as a magitech black leather and jade panther.
Fourth Spear of Rage turns to the guards, nodding. "Yes, be detaining others, will be back in moment." With that, he's throught the door, using a side table as a vantage point to sail over the crowd and then he's out the window, bounding after the fleeing figures.

It seems that the guards are somewhat too incompetent to detained the tripped man, although through no fault of their own. That man backflips onto his feet within mere seconds, and is already dashing away. Seeing that Serendipity is giving chase to his heartless comrade, he decides to take to the rooftops as well, joining the other two that have already left.

The rooftop was not made to accomidate the weight of gunzozha armor, it seems. For as Xue Yu leaps onto it and lands, facing down the three assasins along with Turtle and Fourth, she finds that the roof gives away under her feet. An armor-shaped hole appears as she falls down, harmlessly, but surprisingly the civilians inside.

Xue Yu moves to try and get her footing before attempting to leap further up the roof, but one of her feet instead finds itself placed upon a slick spot of bird excrement...and, when she moves to push off it, begins stumbling backward, letting out a surprised sound and windmilling her arms to try and catch her balance...before failing miserably and falling onto her back, rolling down the rest of the roof, and over the edge, before crashing through and between an assortment of trees on the way down, producing an interesting percussive melody as she does.
The three assasins seem to realise that fleeing is futile without first dispatching their followers. The one with the red sash takes the lead, making a gesture with his hands which the other two seem to understand. All three of them draw their weapons and stand ready. The blue sashed one pulls out several throwing stars. The yellow sashed one holds a weighted rope. The red one draws a short daiklave of fine jade. The three of them seem to be focused and ready, particularily on the Immaculate, although no one takes an action yet.

Moving as one, the three assasins focus their forces on the Immaculate monk. Whether this is because he is perceived as a greater threat, as he is an immaculate after all... or because the timid looking monk looks like easy pickings, it's uncertain. Either way though, the three assasins leap upwards. Blue launchs his attacks in the air, while Red and Yellow vaults over Fourth to get at Turtle. This move proved to be unwise, as Fourth takes this chance to attack them with his magically reinforced blows. Still, they launch an assault against the Immaculate, as they planed.

Perched above the rest of the city, Garrison Heights has its own set of inner walls to fend off invaders that might manage to cut their way into the city proper. Within, clusters of administrative buildings jostle for space with military barracks, all encircling the five hundred yard stretch of parade grounds which dominates the center of the heights. Local troops are kept in trim on the ground, wheeling to and fro in regular drills.
While the parade ground may be at the center of the heights, the buildings that surround it have their own importance. The largest structure in the city looms along the southern side of the rise, the Scintillating River Palace constructed for the Empresses' pleasure, should she ever choose to visit this far-flung city. Near it, the somewhat less imposing structure of the Satrap's Palace rests against the western wall, while the graceful domes of the Immaculate Temple stand with the pride of the greatest and most important edifice of the Immaculate Order in all the East.

Serendipity is a speedy young lady, and runs up behind her foe. He glances back just in time to see the fist that breaks his nose, followed by the nine-section-staff that trips his legs and then, ultimately, the body (this is probably the most pleasant part) that tackles him to the ground, and kneels on him, chain from her weapon's length cutting into his windpipe. There it stays 'till he's knocked unconscious, and she drags the assassin's butt, legs first, back to the guards, looking none the worse for wear. That priest outfit is positively pristine. There's even a tiny little spring in her step.

As the group returns to the hall, prisoners and dead bodies in tow, they find that order has finally been restored, and several armed guards take the wouldst-be assasins from them. Gentle Turtle and Fourth Spear of Rage are thanked for their excellent work in spotting the initial assasin, and all misunderstandings have been worked out. Xue Yu returns to the embassy without much fuss, with little rewards, but no real punishment either. Serendipity is thanked profusely for her help in capturing the last assassin, but it didn't take long for the Beauracrats to realise that she didn't belong there in the first place. Luckily, she was already gone at this point.
Fourth is surprised to discover that Rombulac was indeed injuryed in the attack, despite everyone having seen the assasin miss with his strike. Turtle, however, is less surprised.
