Log: Doth I Protest Too Much

Page history last edited by Richard Hughes 15 years, 7 months ago

(Run by Sesus Sakin for Sesus Ormi, 2 xp to Ledaal Catala Eavos)

Your friends in high places tell you that Nuri Fadr Ibnahid is in his country house, three hours ride from Greyfalls. He is meeting with other members of his family to discuss the severity of the spectacle with the lens.

The guards at the country house give no resistance before Ormi and his troupe of legion soldiers. They make way without resistance, glancing nervously at each other. The majordomo runs to try and beat the dynast to where he knows he is going, fluttering multi-hued silks flapping. A voice is heard from inside the house's small council chamber. "...this time you've gone TOO FAR, cousin! TOO far. Heresies? Financial ruin? Do you mean to drag us back down till we are nothing more than nameless clansmen, Ibnahid?" The majordomo throws the door open before a response is heard. "Lord Ibnahid! You have a guest, Lord Sesus of House Ormi." The three audaciously dressed nuri men inside exchange glances and rise from their seats as one.

Sesus Ormi enters without ceremony. "I do not come bearing ill will of any kind," he says. "Calm your fears." Of course, he is both armored and armed, so. "Ibnahid, your reputation is thus far impeccable, so for you to be embroiled in this scandal surprises and dismays me. But I have many reasons to suspect you are an innocent victim in all this. If you would be so kind as to explain to me what you believe to be the truth of the matter, I would be much obliged."

Ibnahid is the man in the center. He does not introduce his younger compatriots. "It... it... it was an attack!" he splutters. "Lord Ormi, I promise you, the Heavensent Purity Prism had never burned people alive before that day, It was designed to do nothing but sparkle and shine like the glory of the Dynasty and Nuri's combined efforts! It... I don't know what happened," he admits at last.

Sesus Ormi nods. "I believe you," he says honestly. "But your embroilment in this scandal is useful to the ongoing investigation, and we must keep you available to the inquisitors at this time. By the authority of the Scarlet Empire, you are hereby confined to the Greyfalls Satrapy until such time as the Inquisitor Still Waters has had opportunity to employ her magics to dowse the true criminals from you. Please keep the Temple informed of your location for her convenience," he says.

"I..." The Nuri nods, refusing to look defeated. "Of course, Lord Ormi. House Ibnahid has always been a friend of the dynasty. I will do as you ask, with great pleasure. Would it be a burden, lord, to ask that you inform me when the investigations are complete? House Fadr must clear its name of the horrible taint that yesterday's tragedy has evoked."

Sesus Ormi says, "It would be no burden whatsoever. I will send a messenger to inform you when all is well. When the criminal is executed, all innocent parties will be publically declared above reproach."

Sesus Ormi comes closer and takes Ibnahid's hand for a moment, taking a sympathetic air. "You have my sympathy. Truly, your intentions were good, and you spend much effort and wealth on this gesture - it is terrible that you and your clan were cheated of your rightful prestige by this criminal. On behalf of the Satrapy, we do appreciate the gesture."

The Nuri bows low, as do his comrades. "You are a kind and wise Lord to see the good intentions of our actions and the evil of our enemies. Thank you, sir. If there is anything we might do to help the investigation, do not hesitate to ask! All of our resources are at your disposal."

Sesus Ormi smiles. "Good. I'll send a detailed list of requests for assistance within a day."
