Log: Nordit and the Lady in Red or Robbery on a Riverboat pt2

Page history last edited by Richard Hughes 14 years, 9 months ago

Players: Nordit

Run by: Davon Timinus (3 xp)

When we last left our intrepid sailor, he was being lead to the Captain's room by a recently persuaded Officer of the good ship Plotsutania. With the broach in question still in his pocket, how will be approach the captain.

Nordit looks around for anywhere nearby to hide the broach for the time the meeting will take.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Perception + Awareness"

(Judge) Nordit rolls Perception + Awareness: [ 2 7 9 9 <10> ]

Resulting in 5 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "You see a small hole in the wood work going down some stairs, but it would be difficult to palm the broach into it with the officer right behind you."

Nordit turns to face the officer and explains that he has to go get some evidence for the captain; that he'll meet him at the door to the quarters.

Nordit says, "I forgot it in my other clothes when I got dressed for work this morning.""

The officer responds "Hey, I'm taking a huge risk just taking you too him, I can't let you wander the boat."

Nordit shrugs and agrees, deciding to go with the broach anyway.

Nordit says, "Alright, let's meet the captain. I'll show it to him later."

Through the halls you go, taking twists and turns you haven't before. The interior of the ship here is cleaner, and certainly smells nicer. You are brought to a door with stained glass windows, and the officer knocks on the door saying "Sir, a special guest here wants to meet with you sir." The captain opens the doors to his cabin, looking down as if expecting someone shorter than you "Well Madam, I promise that we...wha...who is this? It looks like one of the thieving crew..." he seems like he is about to go on a rant.

Nordit interrupts him and explains, "Captain, I have some important news about the missing broach. If you would let me have a word with you in private, this matter may be quickly resolved.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Roll Manipulation + Presence."

(Judge) Nordit rolls Manipulation + Presence: [ -1- 2 2 5 5 7 7 <10> ]

Resulting in 4 successes.

The captain looks down at you in mid sentence, with a bit of awe in his face. "Well why didn't you say so my good man, come right in" he puts his hand on your back, almost around your neck. "Lets share a snifter of my favorite brandy and you can tell me all about it," he continues on.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "I'd continue his rant but you have a chance, he is touching your skin."

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "I use my charm to try and make him allow me to help as an investigator"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Roll them bones"

(Judge) Nordit rolls Manipulation + Presence: [ -1- 2 3 3 3 6 7 <10> ]

Resulting in 3 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Okay, what is your command to him?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Pose away man"

Nordit channels Essence through his body, emanating from the back of his neck where the captain's hand connects, sending the will to allow Nordit to head the investigation into the noble woman's missing broach.

The man continues his conversation "Come on it and sit down," you enter a rather lavishly decorated cabin, easily half the size of the sailor's quarters. There are drapes of silk, and fine wooden furniture all around. The captain goes over to a hutch of oak and pulls out two glasses and a bottle of brown liquid. Setting them down he goes into a chest and pulls out a small chest made of white and blue jade. "This is the best part, bet you haven't seen this out of season," as he opens the small chest and puts ice cubes into your and his glass. He then pours the brown liquid into the glass. "So what do you think happened to madam's broach? I'd love to put you there as my top man, but she is heading this investigation personally and if I go against her....well lets just say I like my head right where it is"

Nordit awfully appreciates the luxury of the drinks with his eyes, and accepts a glass from him. "Well, Captain, during my work in the holds today, I noticed a number of suspicious things. There were items of negligible importance stashed underneath and into cracks in some of the containers, just another sailor's portion of bread here, another man's silver earring there; the products of a pilferer trying to save up a cache for when he gets off the ship. It wasn't until I checked my own basket that I found some interesting plant material that I'd never noticed anywhere on the ship, even in the crew's quarters--" he wistfully retells as he pulls the sample of green leafy chunks out of his pocket and offers the captain to smell.

"Can't say I recognize the substance son, is it some kind of drug?" says the captain earnestly sniffing the leafy substance.

Nordit says, "There was a pile of this with a small indent in it, that looked like a small trinket of some sort was hidden in it temporarily then removed to another hiding place. It's clear that whoever this thief was found this to be his nest egg and abandoned all of the other products of his stealings to hang onto it to earn a small fortune when the boat lands. I'm worried that if we simply head back to port before we ramify this situation, he'll simply try to sneak off the ship and flee with the lady's jewel. This substance seems to be some sort of a drug, indeed, and if you would permit me to assist you in checking the ship, I might be able to identify its source -- this is what I do as a profession when I'm not working as a deck hand to get to my destination, you see.""

"Well son, I'll tell ya what I can do for you." he says standing up, with a look of extreme concern on his face. "I can get you an audience with the noblewoman, but you best have some damn good evidence when you do, I can't save you from her wrath, I can barely keep this boat mine as it stands." He walks over to the door, "We all have about one hour, till I have to hand you over to her for 'questioning'. I can let you look through any part of the ship beyond the upper quarters, ladies orders you know" He walks over to the door.

Nordit sips back his drink, then accompanies the captain to the doorway. "I appreciate the chance, sir. I will bring you something, you have my word."

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "The way I'm gonna do this is as such, for a good investigation its going to take you 10 minutes per "area" of the ship... and with the travel times between them, I'm gonna give you 4 chances for that hour."

Nordit says, "I'll come find you in an hour. I'm going to get started right away."

Nordit quickly heads off to the cargo holds.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Roll em, cargo holds will take 2 but probably a VERY good place to start. they are pretty darn huge."

Nordit breathes deeply as he walks to the holds, running his fingers across the broach and thumbing its design into an imprint in his mind. "I *must* get to the bottom of this. If I'm going to make it in the big city as a spy, I'm going to need to be able to catch a simple thief on a ship out of port. I can't let the people of my village down, the people who went out on a limb to raise me when I had no other home. They work just as hard, if not harder, than most of the others in this realm, yet they're stricken with poverty and no doctor or humanitarian group will even come to aid them. Their survival is tied to my success. I've got to make something of myself, and return to let them have the chance to make something of themselves." His pace quickens as he nears the doorway, heart rate increasing, allowing his essence to flow through him, heightening his mind and acuity of senses to his peak. "Thief, I will best you. Prepare to meet your match," he says quietly, laced with conviction.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "I'll give you a 3 pointer on that. If you want to channel your conviction too, I'd allow it.

(Judge) Nordit rolls Perception + Investigation + 5 + 3: [ 2 2 2 2 4 4 6 6 8 8 8 8 <10> <10> ]

Resulting in 8 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "You come up with 3 very interesting facts."

Nordit steps into the hold and darts his eyes across every container, checking underneath, inside, and in between everything he possibly can, running his fingers across surfaces, smelling for unusual scents, tasting the very air that washes out of each piece of cargo as he lifts off the lids.

Nordit feeling his brain brimming with essence, he calculates the findings in his head, trying to determine what to make of it all.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "First fact, the noble women is MUCH richer than you first thought."

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "This is mostly her cargo?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Yes"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Second fact, There is a red ribbon with a small jade bell in your basket."

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Third fact, There is no cat in your basket."

Nordit takes the ribbon and bell and slips it into his pocket beside the broach and the catnip, then sighs deeply. "Thaddeus, you had better not be getting into trouble again."

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "What kind of cargo was it?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Salts, Jade finery, personal effects, clothing, and the such. She seems to be moving."

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Where else can I search?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "You can search the decks, the captains quarters, the crew quarters, and the officer quarters."

Nordit summons up the will to continue looking onward, knowing he may be dealing with some very powerful politics if this woman is as important as her cargo seems to insinuate.

Nordit makes haste to the crew quarters, anxious to check them over while all the men are off rowing.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Pose away.

Nordit once again lets the essence seep into his mind, giving himself a good mental stretch to loosen up the tension. "Whoever this criminal was must know by now where her riches lie, seeing her jewelery and her cargo, yet he chose to take this broach. What about it could be so special about it that he'd be willing to put the whole crew at risk, and break his back rowing all day?"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "I'll commit two motes to using the excellency again in here"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Okay I'm gonna give you a 2 die stunt."

(Judge) Nordit rolls Perception + Investigation + 2 + 2: [ -1- 2 2 3 3 3 3 3 8 <10> ]

Resulting in 3 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "You notice a few things, one the crew doesn't seem to have possession besides you. Two their general health seems much worse off than yours. Three if they were hiding anything in here, it would have to be competing with the lice for space."

Nordit as he thought, the thief doesn't seem to be among the lower ranks of the ship's crew. The captain seemed to be sincere enough, and seems to have the most to lose out of the whole ordeal, so Nordit speeds towards the officer's quarters, hoping that they are off busy supervising the other men. As he reaches the doorway, he allows himself to, for the third time, completely drain his personal stores of essence and activate the energy that allowed him to make his previous findings. "Why are you moving, noble lady, and who could profit from following you here? The officers would have access to more of the ship than the work hands, and would probably know the most about the passengers -- I have a feeling they might have some trace in here." Nordit lets his hand slowly push open the door, and peers inside to see what lays within.

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "I'll commit another 2 motes"

(Judge) Nordit rolls Investigation + Perception + 2 + 2: [ -1- 5 7 8 8 8 9 9 <10> <10> ]

Resulting in 10 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "You notice a good many things in your searching of the officers quarters."

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Some of the men seem addicted to a local plant that is dried and smoked through a pipe, it provides a feeling of euphoria while not clouding the senses. Many of the men are family men. They all seem to be family men. Two of the men own personal Fire Wands. They all have been at one point slavers. Two of the men are dealing the drug to the other officers. But no objects belonging to the noblewoman are here."

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Is there any of the plant in the room?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Yeap"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "nothing that resembles a plant, but yeah its there."

Nordit takes a sample of the drug from an officer's locker, and slips one of the fire wands into his coat.

Nordit composes himself and heads back up the way he went to the captain's quarters, making a stop along the way to plant the broach in the crack below the stairs.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Roll Dex + Stealth to hide that bugger."

(Judge) Nordit rolls Dexterity + Stealth: [ -1- 2 5 8 9 ]

Resulting in 2 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "You stash it well and good"

Nordit heads to the captain's quarters to meet him.

You head to the captains quarters, but are intercepted by the noble woman's personal guards. "Its your turn for interrogation," one says pointing at you.

Nordit nods to the guards, dutifully agreeing. "Very well. Will the captain be meeting us there?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "How old do you look, and whats your appearance?"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "I'm a young man, probably 20-25, my appearance is only 1. I've got lots of scars from swordplay as a kid."

The room your escorted into has a distinctive red motif and makes the captain's quarters look like a cave by comparison. There are luxuries and antiquities to spare here. "Sit him down, and leave. I can take care of one a young as him" says a younger female voice from behind some red veils. The guards drop you, leave through the door, and stand guard on the other side. "So, your the one who stole my broach?" says the female voice, whilst a red Jade Daiklave pierces the veils.

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Can I use Judge's Ear Technique right now?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Yeap"

Nordit allows energy to flow into the very heart of his soul, allowing him to discern the information presented to him as falsehoods. He looks up at the veils, blinking through a blank expression. "No, milady, I assure you I am not. I should also inform you that I have within my coat evidence which I was bringing to the captain -- I will share it with you in his stead as I was brought here by your men before I could reach the captain's quarters."

"What, your not supposed to say that..." She says very surprised in a voice that betrays her age. A young girl of mayhap sixteen years of age, in decadent dynast regalia parts the veils. She is indeed armed with a daiklave, but she seems more disappointed than threatening.

Nordit grins and looks up at her. "I'm sorry; I could say that I stole it so that you might run me through, if you wish. Unfortunately, it would not get you back your broach. Are you the noble lady whose scream I heard this morning?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "She obviously is, sans the heavy makeup"

The young woman looks almost embarrassed as you address her as you equal. "Why are you talking like this, your supposed to be afraid of me, and sniveling for your life. Whats your number?" She says still holding the daiklave threateningly.

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "My number?"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Don't tell me she's asking me out"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "She looks quite serious"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "She means phone number?"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Do they have phones?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "No"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "She says what she means."

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "If you don't understand it, respond in kind"

Nordit says, "I'm sorry, my number? I don't believe I know what you mean. I'm merely a man working for his passage on this ship, I only got swept into these events in an attempt to help and get us all to our common destination."

She gets even more flush in her face "Don't play games with me slave, show me your number tattoo."

With that she wields the daiklave with surgical precision and slices through...your shirt sleeve. Afterwards she looks perturbed. "You don't have a..." and she sits down, letting the daiklave fall to her side. "Look I'm completely sorry for all of this..." her look of rage fading, into a look of utter confusion.

Nordit with a look of mild shock on his face, he runs a hand through his short-cropped hair and says, "Slave... Are the other men on board this ship your slaves? The ones who are rowing with no food back and forth across this river because of the broach?"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Hmm, I should try emitting from now on"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus ;)

"Well yes, they are, and you...aren't. Listen I'm sorry about this entire thing." she looks up.

"Mmmrrroooww" from behind the veils. Out comes Thaddeus with a fine red ribbon around his neck, purring and nuzzling the girls hand. At the sight of you, Thaddus jumps down and jumps up to your embrace.

"Thaddeus!" Nordit surprisedly exclaims as he stands to receive his cat in his arms. "Then, are you..." he begins as he reaches into his pocket and draws out the matching ribbon and jade bell. "... the one who left this in his basket?" he quizzically peers at her whilst dangling the ribbon from his fingers.

"I left nothing in your basket, but I did adorn that fine young feline with my bell, I guess he is yours." At that she stands up, and her face does turn deep red "So you did steal my broach, the last time I saw it was when I saw this feline first... you must have trained him to steal for you" and with that she raises the daiklave threateningly.

"I have never had him steal anything, for as long as I've owned him. Please, put that daiklave down, I will show you what I have found. Don't be alarmed by this, it's merely a weapon I found in the officers' possessions--" Nordit states as he draws the fire wand from his coat and sets it down on the table. "--it seems that the captain's men might be up to more than he knows, but I have yet to speak with him on this, so I can't be sure."

She seems almost on the verge of tears..."This is terrible, the worst birthday gift ever. My father said I could have a adventure on the river but all that's happened is threatening a innocent man and I lost my uncle's broach." She lowers the daiklave and sits back down on the bed. "You seem like a good detective, if you could return my broach to me, you might be rewarded handsomely" she says, trying to flaunt her womanly wiles, unfortunately time has not yet beset her with them.

Nordit shakes his head and fits his face into his free palm, holding Thaddeus in the other arm. "What is so important about this broach that someone on board would want to steal it? Is it just money? It seems like there are plenty of other things that would be worth more in the cargo hold, what importance does your broach have to you and your uncle?"

"Well, I can't tell you exactly whats important about, but I can tell you many people will starve unless that broach makes its way to my uncle in Greyfalls. I was to guard it, but it was so astoundingly beautiful I had to wear it once. If I don't find it, I don't know what will happen. I was hoping that if I acted as if someone stole it, then the crew and officers would be motivated to find it. I mean when it comes down to it, does the discomfort of a few disreputable sailors and a crew of slaves mean more than entire villages in the north starving to death?" she blathers out fast and sobbing.

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Is she telling the truth?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Sol's honest."

"Please don't be upset, I think I can find your broach. As I explained to the captain, when I checked my basket this morning, I found Thaddeus inside, drugged with catnip. There was some evidence of the broach having been hid there, but it was moved to some other hiding spot. Do you think my cat would have brought it there? Is there no one on board that you might have reason to suspect could have interest in it?" Nordit explains calmly, trying to bring her down.

"If any on board in my possession would have had the broach, when we hit land I could have had a sorcerer locate it. But since you don't have it, and nobody else knows where it is, that means its lost on this ship or worse cast overboard." says the young Dynast.

Nordit stands and beckons her to follow. "Come with me, I think I know where it is."

"Well, I'd love to go, but I must stay in my quarters, but my two personal guards will escort you." she says parting the veils from whence she came. "If you bring me back my broach, I may be able to get you work in Greyfalls."

Nordit nods to her and heads to the door. "I will be back once I have your broach," he utters as he steps outside and tells the two guards to escort him to the stairs he was at before.

      The guards follow your lead.

Nordit strides thoughtfully towards the stairs he left the broach under before. As he walks, he glances down at a resting Thaddeus in his arms, asking him "Were you the one who took it all along? What about the catnip, where did you find that, you little rogue?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "The broach is there in the nook where you left it."

Nordit bends down and picks up the broach, but turns and looks to the guards and asks "Can we make a stop back at the captain's quarters first?"

The guards shake their heads "We do not keep the Dynast waiting."

Nordit goes back with the guards to the Dynast's chambers, broach in hand. He walks into the room announcing "I've got it for you, but I have a request."

At the sight the Dynast bounds up to you with the excitement and spring that only comes with youth. "You have it!!!!! thankyouthankyouthankyou...er...ahem You shall be rewarded justly for your services" in which she kisses you on the cheek. "A man of your investigatory prowess should be given a job with my uncle in Greyfalls. If you'll have it that is." This seems like more of a command than a offer, her fiery heritage showing through again.

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "When she kisses me on the cheek, I use my Hypnotic Tongue Technique again"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Roll it."

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "Her MDV is 7"

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Wow"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "She, unlike the captain is not an extra"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "She is a Dragonblooded Dynast."

Nordit wells up the ambition inside him to force his essence through his face into her lips, sending the images in his head of his old village and their suffering, along with those of the toiling crew rowing away at her whim. He tries to instill her with the desire to pay her crew instead of forcing them to work as slaves, as an homage to the value of the hardship Nordit and his family faced themselves when he was her age.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "But, fortune favors the bold. Its your choice."

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "+1 stunt."

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Can I use my compassion to modify it?"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "It will cost you a temporary point a wp."

(Judge) Nordit rolls Presence + Manipulation + 1 + 1: [ 2 5 6 6 6 8 8 9 9 <10> ]

Resulting in 6 successes.

Nordit says, "Say, who is your uncle, anyway?"

"Oh, my uncle is Cathak Veradu" she says beaming with pride.

-= OOC =- Nordit says, "Oh geez"

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus :)

Nordit quietly scolds Thaddeus. "Once I learn how to talk to you, you'd better tell me what kind of trouble you're getting me in from now on."

With those brave words the young solar now has employment in the Realm, at least for a little bit. What will happen when he gets to Greyfalls? Tune in next time guys and gals.
