Summary: The Interrogation of Peleps Jakita

Peleps Jakita is kept under watch in a small, private prison cell. It's well appointed and comfortable, and except for the long iron chain shackled around her slim ankle, you would not know that Peleps Jakita is a prisoner at all.

Cathak Verei nods to the prison guard as he enters, dressed in full accoutrement; he strides down for Jakita's prison cell, lance shouldered over his breastplate, visored helmet hiding the vast majority of his tan face. He brushes his hand back and tugs his blonde hair back, letting it spill over his back as he nods at the mortal guards.

"Wait out here, alright?" the Cathak skyknight offers to the mortal guards as they open the door. The skyknight slides inside, sitting down against the wall as the door seals closed. "Hi." He offers, looking her over briefly. "So you're the Pearlie they caught, huh? I have to admit, I didn't think I'd have such a pleasant time interrogating a spy." A grin crosses the skyknight's face briefly. "I don't suppose there's any way we could get through this quickly and maybe spare your pretty self the scarring troubles of torture?"

"My name is Jakita of line Nalin of house Peleps," she says tersely. "If I remember correctly, you are Cathak Verei, who rides the jade dragon. Why have they sent a flyboy to interrogate me? Do your superiors hope that they can drive me to talk through overbearing sexual degradation?" she snarks. Her voice is smooth and liquid, but very cold.

"It's metal. Not jade," he corrects idly, "Metal. Screaming metal deathtrap. And, uh," he scratches the back of his head, "I promised someone I'd stop with the flirting, but I suppose I'm already off to a bad start, huh? Haha..." Verei laughs, hand in his hair. "Heh. Anyway...I don't know, erm, -exactly- what was going through their heads, but...wait a minute now." He holds up a finger. "I'm supposed to be interrogating you, not the other way around." He points the dire lance at her. "I'm asking the questions here," he says before he breaks into laughter, the lance swinging back around to rest against the wall. "Sorry. I've always wanted to say that. So really, no chance of doing this quickly? At all?"

"You haven't actually asked me anything yet. That's a fairly key part of an interrogation," reminds Jakita politely. "Although if you're trying to open up by building a rapport, pointing your jade dick at me is not the best way," she says, glancing at your spear.

"Trying to what n...oh, shit," he groans, "Sorry." He sets the spear down behind him, tucking it between the wall and himself. "So, okay. Let's talk." Verei leans forward, "Who sent you in? I don't mean the Pearl Alliance, I mean, uh," he searches for the word briefly, "What commander?"

"As a prisoner of war," says Jakita politely, "According to Shogunate protocols, I'm not actually required to tell you that. 'Edicts', Volume 3, Page 275."

"Oh." Verei scratches the back of his head again. "Huh. What -can- you tell me according to Shogunate protocols?"

Peleps Jakita says, "Name, family line, and rank."

Peleps Jakita says, "Of course, somehow I suspect you're not interested in the finer points of law."

"Okay, let's start with tha- hey!" Verei looks a bit taken aback, "Just because the vast majority of my life revolves around flying on a screaming metal deathtrap at speeds charitably called 'suicidal' doesn't mean I don't have outside interests!'

Peleps Jakita says, "Well, to your credit, then. I am Peleps Nalin Jakita, born of Peleps Nalin Maraktai, born of Peleps Nalin, born of Peleps, born of the Empress, born of who knows who."

"And your rank?"

Peleps Jakita says, "Civilian."

"H~uh." Verei leans back against the cell. "...so...that's all you can tell me, huh."

Peleps Jakita says, "I was sent here on a diplomatic mission, but when I caught wind of the Yozi cultist activity, I thought to intervene."

Peleps Jakita says, "As is, of course, the duty of all right-thinking exalted of the Host."

Peleps Jakita says, "Be they Pearl or Crimson."

"Diplomacy, huh?" Verei tilts his head, then crosses his arms and nods sagely. "Of course, of course - fighting demons is much more important than fighting each other."

Peleps Jakita says, "You must not get to fly as often as you'd like, if you're so idle they've sent you down here to hobknob with /me/ of all people."

"Well, I - hey! This is about you, not me." The skyknight re-crosses his arms gruffly. "So you're directly related to Peleps, huh...that must be nice." He looks away after a moment, though it's behind a visor. "I bet you're a pretty important civilian."

Peleps Jakita says, "Reasonably. You're adopted in to the family, then?"

"Something like that," he agrees quietly.

Peleps Jakita says, "Sometimes being directly related to your superiors can be more trouble than you'd think."

"I'm sure, but how are they even your superiors if you're a civilian?"

Peleps Jakita raises an eyebrow. "You /are/ adopted."

Peleps Jakita pours herself a cup of tea. "I'm certain that if you review antebellum records of governmental postings you'll learn everything you need to know about my position and status."

Peleps Jakita says, "Well, there's a certain obligation one has to their parents... A filial piety demands obedience to one's progenitor."

"Ah."

Verei shifts in his seat. "I guess that makes sense. And explains why you're being treated so well..."

Peleps Jakita stares at you over her tea. "To your credit."

"To whose credit?" he asks, staring at her.

Peleps Jakita says, "Your organization. I've been treated very well for a prisoner."

"Oh! Well. ...thank you? I'll be sure to tell C...Satrap Zuriel that you pass along your, um, critique." Verei smirks, leaning forward. "Is there anything you'd change to make your stay more pleasant?" he teases.

Peleps Jakita smiles thinly. "I would like a pen."

"I'll pass that along too."

Peleps Jakita says, "Tell me what it's like, won't you?"

Peleps Jakita says, "To ride that thing."

"Depends on your perspective," Verei replies cheerily, "Most people claim that being strapped to a piece of metal with nothing but essence holding you up and leather keeping you tied down as you scream through the sky is utterly terrifying."

Peleps Jakita says, "But your perspective is more charitable towards it."

"Most people consider me crazy. Why the interest in my ride?"

Peleps Jakita says, "I like to hear about people's passions."

"Oh, well."

Peleps Jakita smiles, briefly, a flirtatious invitation.

Verei goes a bit red behind his visor, scratching the back of his head. "W-well," he admits, "There's nothing in Creation like it...the faster I go, the freer I feel, and the freer I feel, the more I can smile when the ground grabs me in its oppressive restraints, I guess. That's a little poetic for me," he frowns, "But it comes down to, I really like to go fast."

Peleps Jakita says, "Doesn't matter where you're going, so long as you have a good time getting there, eh?"

"Something like that, I guess."

Peleps Jakita smiles. "Next time you come to visit, bring a gateway board."

"I'm terrible at gateway," he admits, standing and dusting himself off, "You'd think somebody who graduated from the House of Bells would know his Gateway, but I always wind up losing."

"I think it's because there's no 'fly over everybody else' piece."

Peleps Jakita says, "That's because you don't think enough about where you're going. I'll teach you some tricks."

"I guess you're right," Verei agrees, shoulding his dire lance again. "Hey, so, listen. I'll...see what I can do, okay?" He offers, "About the pen and all. I know -I- hate to be cooped up in a little place like this with nothing to do."

Peleps Jakita says, "I'm certain you're putting up with far more of that than you'd like."

"It's not all bad," he teases, "There's a cute girl on the ground I've been courting. Have a nice night, Peleps Jakita." With that, he pushes open the door and nods at the guards.

Peleps Jakita blushes faintly as Verei retreats.
