Log: Business as Usual Part II

Run by: Illuminant (3xp)

Player: Leedal Kurnaz

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "So!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ready when you are!"

Having agreed upon a price, the fat merchant nods his head cheerfully, "Very well then! I believe that my item, which is a small bronze box decorated with silver lilies, is being held in the the vaults of the Aziz-Mubari compound. They are known for trading a delightful sort of Galmus Tea. Remember, it must be returned unopened! Good luck!"

Ledaal Kurnaz thanks the man for his business and gets an address where he should have the item delivered. As soon as he leaves the Wicker Men go back about their business. It would be unseemly to break down the tent right after a customer left

The fat merchant gives the dropoff location, and then heaves himself up, waddling off with his bodyguards.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "presumably I also got the name of the brother in law and his address right?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "yes, the Aziz-Mubari compound."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "oooh I thought that was just the name of the compound. Didn't realize it was his name :)"

That evening after packing up their small stand and returning their wares home the wicker men go out into the evening and begin staking the place out.

Contacts are sought out to find what information there is to be had and guard schedules and homes are tracked and recorded.

The place must be observed from on high. Apparently, in addition to being the main office for the Aziz-Mubari traders, it is also the end and departure

points for their trade caravans. As such it is protected from thieves by a wall that is four meters high and topped with rusting spearheads.

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "So, make, uh, appropriate rolls! I don't know what kind of contacts or whatever it is you have to use"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well contacts is just a contacts roll, but Kurnaz has both a Gem of Forgetting and Larceny 5 with an excellency, so I can do

disguise and sneakery like nobodies business :)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I'll roll contacts though to see what I pull up, this is through one of wicker men, we'll say...groucho"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls 5: [ 2 2 9 <10> <10> ]

    Resulting in 5 successes.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "the other staking out is just looking to see if there's any schedule to the coming and goings. Seeing if we can track any of the guards back to their houses etc. See if we see any patterns to anything"

Groucho manages to discover the best possible resource - a disgruntled ex-employee! Over yet more cold sherbert and dates, and in return for a suitable supply of silver, the employee reveals that the compound is not a great place to work. The bosses are awful and even the slaves are mistreated. There are guards all over the place, over two score of them wandering around in groups of three. The vaults are located in an underground shelter which can be accessed from an outside entrance. He had never been inside, but the door to the vault is just past the wine cellar.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "go Groucho!"

Groucho also discovers that Aziz-Mubari, the merchant himself, works in a seperate building. He very rarely leaves it, or the compound. He works in his office, sleeps next to it in an adjoining chamber with his attractive concubines. He's protected at all times by a huge, hulking guard who is rumored to have killed a thousand men in combat. The employee quit while the getting is good. For all that it was a tough place to work, there were rumors of even nastier stuff that was happening after hours, not that he saw any evidence of it.

After thanking the man, Kurnaz meets with his men, seeking their opinions on the matter. "It may be that I will need to sneak in to see what is going on after hours and to perform more reconnaissance. Manfred, what have you discovered about the guard's shifts. Do we know if the caravan guards are regulars, known by all or if they're hired outside by the caravan masters?"

Manfred replies, in his thick firespeak accent, "Yes, all of the caravan guards are well-vetted, and most of them are in fact related, part of the nomad tribe from whence Aziz-Mubari came from. The guards inside are on regular shifts. They move about in groups of three at all hours, and the entire compound is fairly well covered."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I hate you :)"

-= OOC =- Illuminant, evil.

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well crow on a stick. Alright that makes that somewhat difficult. Other thoughts? We could try sneaking in inside a piece of cargo? Roll someone up in a carpet or stick em in a big basket? I presume since they trust the guards so much outside they don't extensively screen the cargo before it goes in right?"

Manfred says, "Hunh, I guess that could work. You'd just have to make sure you finished up before they noticed that whatever cask you came in on was not full of tea. Also, getting onto the caravan might be hard."

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "Of course, but I figure thats easier than 3 guard patrols covering the entire place. Anyone think of any other options? I can probably sneak past a lot of them, but that is an awful lot of trained guards he mentioned"

Manfred says, "I dunno how I would do it Boss. You're the Exalted! I think that breaking onto a moving caravan at or into the tea plantation will be just as hard, though."

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "thats true. I could try clinging/strapping myself to the bottom of one of the wagons... do you think thats viable with what you saw?"

Another minion speaks up, "Sure, boss, you could do that. But those nomad warriors are guarding the caravans. They have those laced up pretty tight, unless

you have magic to make you invisible or something, and if you've got that, you can just climb the wall right?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "you're the Exalted! You are automatically smarter than all of these guys put together! So they won't suggest any plans ;)"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "For starters, presuming to do so would ruin their next incarnation!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "sure, but I'm running a brainstorming session, wherein I ask what certain things look like. Like if they were using Yeddim wagons I would be very noticable on the bottom, since the bottom is like 7 feet off the ground"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "regular oxy type wagons I might be able to hide underneath so thats what I'm trying to see"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "or rather that sort of thing"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "It's possible, but you'd have to get past the nomad outriders, that's the tricky part."

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well I have stealth 5 dex 5, and excellency a charm that adds successes (though only against 2 people, so limited in its utility there), and 1st age assassin armor"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "But, my only advice to you is that you are the Chosen of the Gods, think like a god, not like a thief :P"

-= OOC =- Illuminant doesn't even know what the db charms do, I wrote the compound to be really hard for a mortal thief to break into.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "what? you mean just go in there guns blazing? oooh...ok."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Kukla said a dragon-blooded theif should not have any problems :P"

-= OOC =- Illuminant showed him the writeup, I was worried it was too hard.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok well then.. moving on"

Ledaal Kurnazslams his fist down in frustration. "Bah! Never mind this trickery, I'll just sneak in at night. If things get hot I'll launch a flare. You guys lob some fire dust grenades and I'll flee the scene. I don't expect this to be a problem though. Now how to make it look like an accident...

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "do I know of any super special awesome (sorry I've been wathcing a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh the abridged series lately) poisons that do that, or am I just going to have to force feed this bastard some cocaine?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "there are plenty of poisons that work quite well. The merchant has a food-taster though."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "rather does my craft (water) 5 alchemist know of any? God I love henchmen"

Your alchemist provides you with a variety of splendid poisons. Poisons for food, for water, for wine, for sherbert, for soap, for heaven's sake.

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "What about contact poisons Harpo? Does anyone know if his food taster taste the concubines? What if I slathered some on one of them while she was sleeping? I'll bet you he's a biter, that might work"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Remember, you're being paid to steal the box! Killing the merchant pays a nice bonus though"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "oh! I thought I was trying to kill him too"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "well, you can! Certainly you are encouraged to do so, but it isn't mandatory to fufill the contract."

Harpo says, "I have contact poisons, sure, but none that won't kill the concubines too."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "Harpo is mute btw :), they're all named after Marx brothers"

Harpo just writes really fast.

Ledaal Kurnaz reads Harpo's note, "well theres bound to be casualties"

Harpo writes, "If he picks another girl, though, we'll just tip him off."

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "true true. Lets get a soap poison, I'll mix into the stuff he's got, he'll die bathing"

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "or no actually, I like the biting idea"

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "oh wait!"

Harpo just looks confused and waits for you to tell him exactly what to do.

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "there is, fyi, no one particular way to accomplish this task. I just did a writeup and you can figure it out :)"

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok so heres what we're going to do, make a high concentration ingestion poison, I'll put some on the concubines while they're napping or whatever, and if that doesn't work I'll mix it into their scented oils. Then when he's kissing them or whatever it is he does he'll have a heart attack. Give me a back up just straight up contact poison for if that doesn't work. I'll put it on him directly and push him down some stairs to mask the bruising "

Harpo requests a pile of silver for reagents, and then sets to work cooking up the vile stuff.

Ledaal Kurnaz says, "No ones seen the concubines have they? I'll bring the Mask anyways along with some props and see if I can infiltrate"

Manfred speaks up again, "Well, not that employee, anyway. He says he didn't work there that long, that the place was just really creepy and he quit as soon as he could."

silver is retrieved from the vault and given to Harpo. While he does his work, the crew continues to watch the compound surreptitiously, trying to note if anything out of the ordinary could be capitalized on

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "how long are you going to watch the place? Assume that harpo takes just as long as you are casing it :P"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "oh ok, I was going to guess he needed like a week to make the stuff"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "but if he only needs a day then we get cracking the following night"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "A day is fine. Ok! You have whatever your normal gear is, plus a variety of poisons both subtle and not."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok then I've got mask weapons, unseen assassin armor etc. I'll try to scale the wall outside the compound, presumably away from the gate but near his building"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "what are the page numbers for the artifacts?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "um let me check"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "http://exaltedonline.pbworks.com/Power-Armor-v-Kukla"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its the last armor"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "you have the 3 hearthstones to power the armor?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "yes"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "golly!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I'm decked out for sneakery!"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "the mask, what's that?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "like, for your face?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "pg 381 of the core"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its kind of like a hat of disguise from d20. But it doesn't auto work, it just adds 4 dice to the roll"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok!"

-= OOC =- Illuminant assumes you or your henchmen have the skill to upkeep the armor

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "though it does give me with my excellency 19 dice for my disguise roll"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "yes"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "thats a big part of why I have them actually :)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "gods bless heroic mortals, everyone of them"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "heh"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "alright!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "the other stuff is just weapons and various hearthstones"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "righto then"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "jesus, with this armor, why did you want to even bother with the caravan tricks, etc?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "did you even read all the stuff it can do? :P"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well it lets me be stealthy"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "it lets you /teleport/"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "but the main reason I have it is so the sidereals/yu shan can't track me"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "oh yeah..."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I forgot about that"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "riiight"

Chico slaps Kurnaz upside the head. "You're an ass hole sometimes, you know that?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "but its only 2 yards, so thats still of limited utility"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "and I can't see where I'm landing so going through walls is liable to get me spotted right quick"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "yeah, but so? That's why it has super stealth bonuses."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well if YOU'll let me teleport to the otherside of the wall into immediate stealth then sure, I mean this is the sort of stuff I bought it for too. I just thought that I'd appear and THEN get to go stealthy giving the guards a brief second to notice me"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Ok, you're an Exalted thief. This means that you are Snake Eyes and these guys are cobra grunts."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "but if you're ruling in my favor then hells yes, I'll take it :)"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "you even have the fancy armor."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "well, there will be dice rolls!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "HAHAHA"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "I'm just just gonna let you slide. But I mean: you are a god. Act like it."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "er, not just"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I'm kind of in awe of how awesome you are for making that reference"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Dude Unseen Armor == snake eyes outfit"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "http://exaltedonline.pbworks.com/PCA-Ledaal-Kurnaz"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "thats how I envisioned it with chibi maker :), I kind of mixed snake eyes with the cyber ninjas from metal gear"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "but, yes. You can certainly teleport beyond the wall and roll a stealth check against any potential observers."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok then I'll do that, climbing is for chumps"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "pose away!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "righto then"

Ledaal Kurnaz and the Wicker Men slide into various overwatch positions around the Aziz-Mubari compound. They move with the practiced grace of trained killers. No words leave anyone's lips. Only silent hand gestures, a rudimentary and highly focused sign language, communicate thoughts between the flitting shadows.

After everyone is in position and the all clear has been given Kurnaz darts out of the darkness to the wall nearest wall of the compound. The wall is one that has been carefully preselected as one nearer to the complex where Aziz-Mubari lives and sleeps. He presses himself up flush against it, the enlightened octopus pigments in his armor matching the adobe bricks perfectly. He says a quick prayer to the southern gods of stealth and larceny before taking a deep breath, closing his eyes tightly and falling through reality to the other side of the wall.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "before I go in I'm activating Distracting breeze method"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I think its 2 motes, but I'm looking it up. Its a stealth DB charm"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "it's 1 mote per 2 successes, and can distract 1 person up to your Essence"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "its on page 137"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok, found it. Yeah its scene long so I think I get to switch that around. I'm essence 2 so I only get 2 targets though"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "aaand I've forgotten how to spend essence ;-;"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "+essence/help"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "don't forget to attune your artifacts."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok I'll do that while you're posing, unless you need me to make a stealth roll right now"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "go ahead and make a stealth roll"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok using an excellency for...3 dice"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "how big is your essence pool, anyway?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "the armor costs 15 motes to attune and the mask is 5"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its all out of peripheral and its most of it. But I can't spend that and be stalthy anyways since I'm not a Night/Day caste"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Stealth + Dexterity + 3: [ -1- 2 2 3 3 4 6 6 8 8 8 9 9 ]

    Resulting in 5 successes.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz wince

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "When you attune artifacts it doesn't make your banner flare"

[Guest] Guest1 says, "Hi!"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "or rather it does, but you can do it last week so the flare has gone down."

[Guest] Illuminant says, "how do you do?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "not that I'm aware of... I mean maybe when you first attune, though I don't think so even then, but no its not like a permanent flare thing"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "so, +essence personal/3"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "right"

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent 5 motes of Essence from his Personal Essence pool

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "oh, 5 motes?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I thought it was = not /"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "I guess db excellencies cost extra"

(Judge) Illuminant rolls: 5 [ 1 5 8 8 10 ]

     Successes: 3

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "shit no actually they're cheaper, but outside I used the distracting breeze meditation"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I actually get more than 3 dice though, DB excellencies are more efficient but have a lower cap"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok, so that was 5 motes for the breeze meditation?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "those 5 motes are committed until the end of scene, or until you drop the power."

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls 2: [ 2 6 ]

    Resulting in a failure.

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "So you can't stunt those back, is what I mean. The excellency motes, you can stunt back."

Kurnaz appears right next to three guards! Their lantern bobs in the breeze, and their gaze just passes right on by him as they move on in their patrol.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok it didn't make a difference. 2 motes that are committed for Distracting Breeze thing, the 3 motes I spent on the excellency

gave me 5 dice. So thats why I spent 5"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "2 is the most I can spend on distracting breeze until my essence goes up"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "okay. And that's 1 mote for 2 successes and it will affect 2 people?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "correct, I get 2 auto successes against 2 seperate people, but in a patrol of 3 one of them is against my normal (excellency enhanced) roll"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "righto."

So he's in! Now what?

Ledaal Kurnaz whispers a prayer of thanks to the gods. He scans the court yard taking a quick survey of where the various patrols are and makes sure to stay out of their lantern light when possible. He scans the living quarters for obvious entrances, windows, doors etc. and begins planning a route in.

It's night time. There are various windows and doors in the building that your client identified as Aziz-Mubari's office/living space. Except for the pools of light spilled by the patrolling guards, no one is moving around

Ledaal Kurnaz begins scaling one of the walls. He slinks up like a chameleon and likewise his armor's pigments continue to blend in with the already mottled adobe. He moves carefully, avoiding the tell tale "rippling" that many invisibility effects are subject too when their users become impatient or over confident and move too fast. He makes for a higher level window, hoping that the man likes the high life in a more literal sense as well.

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "roll climb, difficulty 2. Don't forget any armor bonuses"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "or penalties, let me check if it has any"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "nope no mobility penalty"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "thats strength isn't it? No stunt bonus?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "sure, take a 2d bonus"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Athletics + Strength + 2: [ -1- -1- 4 5 6 <10> ]

    Resulting in 2 successes.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "whew cutting it close there"

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent -2 motes of Essence from his Personal Essence pool

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "also you could get 2 more dice from your armor, you should know what your stuff does :P"

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent -1 motes of Essence from his Essence Personal pool

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "since the other stuff is committed, thats as high as it goes ;-;"

Kurnaz climbs up into a window, and, sure enough, beyond the second-age glass is a pile of tangled limbs, a sleeping pile of concubine and overweight merchant.

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just attuned Peripheral Essence

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just attuned Peripheral Essence

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just attuned Peripheral Essence

Ledaal Kurnaz checks quickly to see if any of the tangled limbs belong to an awake personage. When he is suitably convinced they are all asleep he begins to chart out a path that will let him get within reach of the sleeping merchant. /Apparently obesity runs in the family...no wait its his brother in law.  Apparently being fat just goes along with being a rich merchant/ he thinks to himself.

It's easy enough to climb inside without disturbing anyone. These second-age buildings don't have any of the magitech security that the broken first-age towers possess. Everyone in this particular room is asleep, although there is no sign of the "huge bodyguard" that the disgruntled employee claimed Aziz-Mubari employs.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "riiiight...thats probably a bad sign"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "depends, I mean, would you like your employees to watch you have sex? :P"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "safety first!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well he's done, and presumably has been for some time. I mean its one thing if he just passes out after he's done, but the concubines are asleep too"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "haha, anyway, it's all you."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "to clarify for this next post, one of Kurnaz's favored abilities is medicine and he has 3 dots in it."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "k"

Ledaal Kurnaz thinks to himself /well hopefully Harpo is earned is keep on this one/. Kurnaz pulls out a small telescoping swab and swirls it around in the contact poison. He extends the head out to maximum distance and then with the practiced had of surgeon applies the very faintest of touches to the mans chakra points, artfully applied to facilitate the absorption of the time delayed toxin.

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "so, how long until this poison kills him?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "In ~30 minutes it induces a massive heart attack"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "is what I'm hoping"

Well, that's easily accomplished. Now Kurnaz is standing there with a jar of poison goop in a room full of snoring people.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "assuming Harpo made it correctly, the man's obesity doesn't fuck things up, and he's not currently wearing antitoxin charms or some such thaumaturgical clap trappery"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Well, harpo is super skilled, and you don't /see/ any antitoxin charms on him."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "thats true, but he's also half buried in naked women"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "so, you just gonna stand here and watch or.."

Ledaal Kurnaz sneaks back out the window, gently closing it. He waits perfectly still, watching the man for the next half hour while the poison slowly goes to work.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "not /here/ but close enough"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "remember, killing him is just for bonus money!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "thats true, I was hoping that when he died it would create a distraction, but I guess I'll go fetch the box right now, and check up when I've got it."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "it can take hours and hours to die from a heart attack, too. it'd be like 1 damage every half hour (since thats the poison interval)"

Ledaal Kurnaz peeks in the window for a few minutes and then begins creeping back down

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "or, like 1 damage every 5 minutes or something"

(Judge) Illuminant rolls 5: [ -1- -1- 6 7 8 ]

    Resulting in 2 successes.

As Kurnaz is climbing down, another patrol passes by.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well I was thinking that it would have an onset time and then hit hard and fast, though I guess thats not really something supported by the rules as they stand. Its probably something like 1 damage every five minutes. Possibly 1 level instead of a roll if you think Harpo can pull it off, and I gave him a few of doses to make sure he kicks the bucket"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Stealth + Dexterity + Stealth: [ -1- -1- 2 2 2 2 3 3 5 7 9 9 <10> <10> <10> ]

    Resulting in 9 successes.

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent 3 motes of Essence from his Essence Personal pool

-= OOC =- Illuminant isn't gonna worry about it, but its not 30 minutes -> insta death :P

It's fairly easy for Kurnaz to sneak down to the ground and then make his way towards the basement entrance identified by the client as leading to the vault.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well sure, it takes a while to die from the heart attack even if its a biggy, but thats sort of the beginning of the end if its a lethal one and you don't have defibulators/personelle trained in CPR"

Ledaal Kurnaz slowly slides out a lockpick as he approaches the door. He checks it over for alarms or traps before trying the handle, presumably locked

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "perception+larceny?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "roll em"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Perception + Larceny + Larceny: [ 2 2 2 4 4 5 9 9 <10> ]

    Resulting in 4 successes.

Kurnaz doesn't find any traps, nor is the door locked. Soon it is apparent why, as this door leads to a cold storage basement. There is a stack of vegetables and some cured meat. The wine cellar is beyond, and, beyond that, presumably, the vault.

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent 2 motes of Essence from his Essence Personal pool

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "safety first!"

Ledaal Kurnaz waits until no guards are looking and then quickly slips through the door, shutting it quietly behind him. Continuing to creep along he makes his way past the various food stuffs, solid and liquid, and creeps towards his ultimate destination, all the while his hair is on end, listening for every

little sound as a possible sign of danger.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "by the by not ALL my characters are this paranoid, but it is actually in Kurnaz's background that he's a paranoid psychopath"

The wine cellar seems well stocked. Past it is, as promised, a solid looking door. There are no guards in the vault room, but the door does have a large iron lock holding it fast.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its the tragedy of Kurnaz's life that his paranoia and insanity blocks out the real world to an extent. He's actually very bad at perception and awareness"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "on the other hand, he has a 5 dot artifact and he's chosen of the elemental dragons ;)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well its not /too/ bad I guess, but its a tragedy in the greek sense in that despite having all these gifts and wonders he's very much a doomed individual. His plotted courses of action I expect are going to get him killed brutally"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I just need to look up anima banners of DBs. Like when stealth becomes impossible when spending out of peripheral"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ah ok found it, its the same as solars, so I can spend a little"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "sounds good"

Ledaal Kurnaz once again examines the entirety of the door and its encasement for traps or alarms. /Really and academic distinction/ he thinks while activating the power armor's Essence-Reactive Lenses. It just wouldn't due to be ratted out by some hired spirit.

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent 3 motes of Essence from his Peripheral Essence pool

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "k, roll em"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I now benefit from the effects of Spirit-Detecting Glance for the rest of the scene"

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent 2 motes of Essence from his Personal Essence pool

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok!"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Larceny + Larceny + Perception: [ 2 2 3 6 6 8 8 9 <10> ]

    Resulting in 5 successes.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "you know just in case theres a hired spirit or something watching :)"

While there are no spirits visible, in the door jam there are two grooves that appear to have been caked with salt.

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Intelligence + Occult: [ 2 2 3 6 6 7 9 <10> ]

    Resulting in 4 successes.

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Intelligence + Lore: [ 4 4 5 6 7 7 9 <10> ]

    Resulting in 5 successes.

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "definately thaumaturgy, warding magic. There are about a hundred different kinds, but it's probably an alarm spell."

-= OOC =- Illuminant notes, your armor's stealth enchantments are about ten thousand times more powerful than pitiful magic like this.

Ledaal Kurnaz curses to himself. /Crow! Where is that damn mute when you need him./ He ponders for a moment trying to recall if he knows any ways of breaking such things. When nothing comes to him, he shrugs /Well I guess here's hoping its just on the door specifically and not the vault itself./

An outside hope of course in this world of dematerialized spirits and other magics, but Kurnaz's other option of going outside and discussing the matter with his resident thaumaturge is so much less EPIC. He closes his eyes tightly and skips across the intervening distance.

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Stealth + Dexterity: [ -1- 2 2 3 5 6 7 8 9 <10> ]

    Resulting in 5 successes.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I forgot to make that last time, but its difficulty 4 to teleport"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "realistically Kurnaz would have snuck back out to discuss this the experts he employs for just such a reason but A)Thats so much less cool and B)Realistically he wouldn't be sneaking around in magical teleportation armor casting spells to make him extra sneaky"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "so realistically kind of fails as an argument :)"

Nothing happens! Of course, alarm spells are typically silent. Beyond the locked door is another one. This door is of iron, and the wards around it are more visible, being carved into the floor and lined with glittering silver etched into eldritch designs. The wards extend in a line across the floor. They are still, however, pathetic mortal thaumaturgy.

Ledaal Kurnaz /well so far so good, and if I *have* tripped an alarm then time has suddenly become of the essence/ Kurnaz once again closes his eyes tightly and whispers a prayer to the various gods of skullduggery. /please please please please pleeeeaaaase/

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Stealth + Dexterity: [ -1- 2 2 4 5 5 5 6 8 <10> ]

    Resulting in 3 successes.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "presuming no stunt dice thats a failure..."

Alas, the god of thaumaturgy must have filed an injunction. The teleportation effect stops just short of the warding magic.

Ledaal Kurnaz when he opens them up again and he's in the same place, he glares at the wardings and the absent unhelpful gods, /Oh you guys suck so hard. I'm totally not sacrificing squat to you bastards next New Moon/.

Drawing on his training in the occult in an effort to avoid tripping the likely already tripped alarms Kurnaz steps gingerly around the various warding lines, keeping to geomantically prescribed breathing patterns and step routines. He approaches the door and begins examining it as quickly as possible for a means of entrance

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "the wards block access to the door. They are just carved from wall to wall in a line, and there is no way around them. Only through!"

The wards simply sit for you, waiting. Taunting. Well, everybody knows how to break through wards: the hard and painful way. Scoring the ward drawings breaks them, but they zap you when you do that.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ooooh. Damn you Shenji, god of Thaumaturgy!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "can get an idea of how bad these things are going to fry me?"

(Judge) Ledaal Kurnaz rolls Occult + Intelligence: [ -1- 3 5 6 7 8 9 <10> ]

    Resulting in 5 successes.

This looks like a Greater and Lesser Warding, combined. It will be, roughly, like being stabbed in the gut in a bar fight.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz-; aw man, I don't have that many health levels...well no pain no gain I guess

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "actually, you spend wp and roll Essence, and each success weakens the ward."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "then the ward zaps you."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "the magic of the ward bypasses armor, it is only soakable with natural soak."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "there are a grand total of 8 successes, but after the first 4 it becomes bashing rather than lethal damage."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well thats bad, because I've got squat for natural soak. How much damage are we looking at here? How much can I reduce that by?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I don't really know my thaumaturgy"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "it's 8 dice to begin with. But you roll your weakening roll first, so it might be as low as 6 to start with."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "8L raw damage I mean."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ah ok, well then lets hope I roll well. Can I spend a wp or channel a virtue? Like conviction because I *know* I'm about to endure a great hardship?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "8L is enough to kill me if this goes bad... >.<"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "you have to spend wp to make the weakening checks, so you don't want to run out"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "wait how many weakening checks does it take?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "each weakening check does 8L? and theres more than 1? Ok now I definitely need to head out and consult an expert because that'll kill me right quick"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "no, here's how it goes"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "you spend a wp, roll essence. it does 8-successes L in raw damage"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "which is modified by natural soak, so max 7, min 5 I guess"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "max 8, you round down"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "but go on"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "So, if you get 2 successes on the first roll, it will do 6L raw-natural soak."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "and since the ward is weakened, another 2 successes will mean you're suffering 4B"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "wait another two successes? You mean if I spend two more wp?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "(after you weaken it by half, it goes down to bashing)"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "right, if on the second check, you get 2 successes, it would go from 6L to 4B"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "and I have to keep spending wp to get it down to 0, rolling only 2 dice each time and taking however much damage in return before its broken?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Yup. Unless you know thaumaturgy, sorcery, or figure out some other way to get past it."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "emerald countermagic would shred a spell like this without even having to roll. There is warding magic that can take apart wards without injuring the user, but I don't know if Harpo has the appropriate degree"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "naw he has alchemy"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok well I've got to figure out some other way because that will definitely kill me right dead. (I'm guessing I can't just try teleporting again because that would be too easy?)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "and I'm only essence 2 so no sorcery"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Naw. I mean, that would have worked if you hadn't failed the check, but you did, so the pattern spiders noticed you."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "right"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "how deep is the vault?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "the merchant must have some way of getting past the ward. And, you have no idea."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "wait how do *other* people pass through? Is it keyed to them or to a specific object or something?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ah you answered that"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "how deep am I right now though?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "about thirty feet. You're underneath the living quarters, you think."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok well then I guess this just became radically more complicated, damn it, I knew I should have spent for an excellency"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "the joys of infiltration/assassination!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "lol"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "well, what would have been worse is if you teleported past the wards the first time and then failed to get out."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "in fact, uh, as it is, you're going to have to break down the door."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "the first door? I can't teleport back out?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "Well, you could try, but there might be an angry god of space and time waiting for you on the other side."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "lol so not recommended then? :)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok then here's the plan. I'm going to wait here just sitting around meditating (or stunting something mundane) till my pools refill which is 2 hours. Unless some guards come down. If they DON'T come down them I'm going to trip the alarms on the first door to draw them down, at which point I'm going to hide in corner of the ceiling in the wine cellar, you know arms and legs stretched out in the typical spy fashion."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "okay! Lets see here."

(Judge) Illuminant rolls: 10 [ 2 2 3 4 4 5 6 7 9 10 ]

     Successes: 3

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "actually I could probably kill a weaker god depending on how much he could perfect"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "so, are you going to wait, or what?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "no I'm going to wait, usually "gods of time and space" are not weaklings"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "alright. Well, no guards come."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "possibly this is because their boss is having a heart attack."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "also, assuming he's the one who set the alarm.. if he's dead it won't go off."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "well that would be convenient"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "but yeah I sort of figured that no one would come down"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "so! Refresh your pools then"

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent -9 motes of Essence from his Personal Essence pool

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent -7 motes of Essence from his Essence Peripheral pool

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "dropping the breeze meditation, too?"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its a new scene I figured since nothing happens for two hours, I'm going to reactivate it"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "okay."

(OOC) Ledaal Kurnaz just spent 2 motes of Essence from his Essence Peripheral pool

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok opening the outside door"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "or is it locked?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "it's got a padlock on the other side."

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "as you might scroll up and see when I described it before"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "sone of a!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its 12:39AM here cut me a little slack :)"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "sure, sure"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "we can break here if you want to think it through. ICly you have a few hours anyway."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "this is probably as good a stopping point as we'll get so yeah."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "its a fun run so far! Thanks!"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "from experience, you will not be able to safely teleport for 48 (well, 46) now hours. After that time, the pattern spiders will remove their red flag"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "good to know"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "are you saving this and posting it?"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "yeah, I'll do so. I have to change the name of the merchant, I accidentally used the tri-khan's name :)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "no worries. I'll check the log before I curse his name a thousand fold"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "you can probably also edit out the part where I wait 30 minutes :)"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ah the glories of retconning!"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "oh! No I didn't."

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "ok well good then"

-= OOC =- Illuminant googled up delzahn names, but the one in the web page doesn't match the one in the book, see.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "cool"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "so this web page identifies him as Tri-Khan Aziz-Mubari, but in fact his name is Yejouj"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "I know nothing of the south except its hot and full of panda people, horse nomads and fire dust"

-= OOC =- Illuminant is gonna shower and run errands, then I'll post the log.

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "alright can give me vote, I'll go to sleep and we'll pick this up tomorrow or thursday hopefully!"

-= OOC =- Illuminant says, "ok!"

-= OOC =- Ledaal Kurnaz says, "great thanks again"
