Log: A Gem In Gem

Page history last edited by wastevens@... 14 years, 9 months ago

Run By: Dokuganryu (2xp)

Players: Davon Timinus

Synopsis: A hunt for a Firegem, made so much easier through luck than it could've gone!

Gem. A city-state of unparalleled greed and unsurpassed wealth, it shines in the desert of the South like a beacon of corrupted hope in the grasp of whoever is the current Despot, clutching its power to its chest tight. Rare commodities can be purchased here - above-the-table or below - if one is willing to drop enough coin to find it, or sneak below the radar of the corrupt law enforcement.

Davon walks around the vast city, much dirtier than the Chronopolis he is used to and why is it so damn hot? He finds his way to the merchant quarters, and begins asking questions about local gemstones, mostly those known for their beauty, uniqueness, and difficulty to obtain due to danger.

(Judge) Davon Timinus rolls Intelligence: [ 3 6 ]

Resulting in a failure.

Though none of the reputable stores will have anything to do with the trade of such dangerous things, Davon is finally directed to a dealer by the name of Al-Bazd. The man's store is laid out with jewels of all types - though no Firegems seem present. "Welcome, my friend!" Al-Bazd offers happily at Davon's entrance. "I understand you are looking for quality firegems, ehhh?"

"Do you know how I know? Because I am a man with my ear to the ground, ehh?" Al-Bazd chuckles, "And I hear many things in Gem, I do!"

(Judge) Davon Timinus rolls Intelligence + Lore: [ 6 6 7 8 8 ]

Resulting in 3 successes.

-= OOC =- Davon Timinus says, "is a fire gem explosive?"

-= OOC =- Debok Moom says, "They are not - low-quality ones are merely lukewarm, but high-quality ones can melt steel."

"You sir seem to be a man of good taste and wise buisness sense sir. My name is Davon, and I am indeed looking for such a trinket. Most people seem not likely to talk to a forgeiner such as myself.”

"Oh oh oh! Trinket! Firegems are no trinket, my friend, unless you have much money to spend, ehhh?" Al-Bazd sits down, gesturing for Davon to take a seat as well. "Firegems are strictly regulated by the Honorable and All-Wise and All-Knowing Despot! You might find low-quality, weak, and poor-cut ones all across Gem, but..." Al-Bazd's eye twinkles. "I suspect you are a more discerning man that this, yes?"

"They seem like such a treasured item even here where they are found, are they difficult to find?" Davon says with an inquisitive look on his face.

"Mmmmmmm," Al-Bazd replies thoughtfully, "Depends on the salesman and the quality of the gem. A low-quality gem will be easy to find, but...well." Al-Bazd sits forward, "Will you tell me, my friend, what it is you seek it for? Perhaps then I can help you find a gem perfect for you."

Davon starts to get a little stary-eyed. "Well Mr Al-Bazd, I have a special lady I am trying to impress. She means the world to me and I am trying to find very beautiful trinkets or gemstones for a piece of jewelery my friend is making. I've already accumulated some of these gems, here is one of the ones that didn't pass mustar." at that Davon reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pidgeon egg sized Hell-opal (Resources 5 purchase).

Al-Bazd's eyes bug out at the Hell Opal. "I...have never seen such a gem. May I?" He holds out his hands towards Davon reverently.

Davon walks over to a table and places it in the center "Yes, I see no problem with this"

Al-Bazd lifts the gem, holding it up to the sky. "My word," Al-Bazd murmurs, "What a commodity." He looks back up at Davon as he draws forth a jeweler's lens, setting it over his eye briefly. "Tell me, friend - if I desired this gem, and could find you a firegem of equal beauty, what would you say to me?"

"No," Al-Bazd stops, waving his hand, "Of greater beauty!"

"I'd have to see the gem first but you sound a man of your word, I see that to be a easy trade" Davon replies flippantly.

"Excellent," Al-Bazd agrees, standing as he sets the gem back on the table, "I will make some...er...calls...and have you this gem in one hour, ehhh? How does this sound, my friend?"

"I'll tell you what Al-Bazd. You take your time, spend the day looking. I have some sight seeing to do in this fine city. We will talk tomorrow at this time" Davon says with a smile whilst picking up the stone.

"Oh, very well, very well," Al-Bazd waves his hand, "Tomorrow, then, at this time."

Davon waves and walks out of the shop into the Bazaar.

Al-Bazd is waiting in his shop when Davon returns, holding a...well, perfect, firegem in his hand. It gleams with an unnatural light, flame dancing within its perfectly-cut shape; he sets it down on a plate and smiles at Davon. "Ahhh, my friend, my friend, you are as good as your word. The Despot, his men nearly caught me, but I avoided him, ehhh? Now now - may I see the gem?"

"Surely Al-Bazd, you surely are a amazing man when it comes to your trade. This looks absolutely stunning." Davon sets down the same hell-opal and picks up the firegem.

"Oh ho ho," Al-Bazd chuckles, lifting the hell-opal into his palm and placing it on his windowsill, "I am merely one who knows how to get around Gem, ehh? Have a lovely day, my friend." With that, Al-Bazd sets a price down on the Hell Opal (easily twice what it's worth) in paper, a pleased smile on his face. Clearly, such gems are so rare as to be worth far more than the firegem he traded it for.
