Animals of Creation

 

Animals have several purposes in Creation. Ambient threat to weaker life forms. Natural ward against the chaos of the Wyld. Beast of burden. All the usual forms of ecosystem.

 

Fundamentally, however, from the perspective of a game of Exalted, their purpose is to be eaten and turned in to by Lunars to get at their sweet powers. Insofar as it becomes relevant, rulings related to the powers and abilities of these delicious critters (plus what knacks are needed to become them) are listed here.

A desert basilisk's gemstone eye does not have the crazy powers it had in first edition and can't be set in a hearthstone socket. It functions as an austrech with the following mutations: Large (Pox +1), Red-Hot To The Touch (Affliction +2), Eat Anything Organic No Matter How Gross (Blight +4), Beautiful To The Eye Of A Mortal (Affliction +2), Derangement: Oh God I Gotta Eat Anything Organic Right The Hell Now (Deformity -4), Derangement: Augh It's A Desert Basilisk I Need To Kill It Immediately (Debility -2).

 

Becoming a Desert Basilisk requires the knack Luna's Hidden Face.

 

DOG (WAR)

 

EIGHT-TAILED MOLE HOUND

 

An eight-tailed mole hound is treated as an omen dog with the following mutations: Armored Hide (Blight +4), Tunnel Through Soil And Sand Like Air (Blight +4), Derangement: Murderous Towards Humans All The Time (Debility -2).

 

Becoming a mole hound requires the knack Luna's Hidden Face. 

 

RHINOCEROUS

 

A rhino is a tank-like herbivore whose survival strategy involves being tough enough to withstand a daiklave and heavy enough to trample your average god underfoot like grass. They are aggressive and territorial.

 

Though no larger than an adult moose, they are so much more dense, armored, strong, and heavy that they are too large to be consumed without the Towering Beast Form Knack. Rhinocerous are treated as though they have the derangement: Must Stomp Out All Visible Fires (Debility -2).
