History
B'alam was born Sergio Guatemalteco Montenegro to an idigenous rural family in the region of Ti'kal. One evening, when he was a child his village was slaughtered by a neighboring tribe. His parents and older siblings managed to sneak him and his younger siblings out of the village by sacrificing themselves. He was separated from his brothers and sisters and soon found himself trapped in a shadowland, unable to leave before morning.
That night a small band of hungry ghosts came for him. He ran. They followed. He hid. They found him. Eventually chased him beyond the borders of the shadowland, trapping him in the underworld. For 5 days he elluded them, but the underworld was draining him. He was sick and dying, doomed to join the land he was trapped in, when the Jaguarmen found him. They had been hunting the hungryghosts, picking them off one at a time. Seeing his grave state these eternal warriors abandoned their hunt raced him to the border of the nearest shadowland.
But in their haste to save the young boy they failed to notice that packs of hungry ghosts from the area had gathered and set upon them. As he crossed the border to the living world Sergio ran to the arms of his mother. She was robed in white and her hair was silver. "Be calm my son," she soothed, "you have survived the darkness, your journey is at an end." Off in the corner of his eye he saw a jaguar in the bush staring back toward the ghosts who had saved him, and he heard their plight. Looking up into the eyes of his silver mother, he knew what he must do and that she approved. At that moment Sergio died and Balam the jaguar was born. He tore through the hungry ghosts, fueled by rage and loss, until none survived.
For many years he after that night he lived as a jaguar, feral. He hunted men and ghosts, wandering the areas around his vilage in both the worlds above and below. Until one night one of the ancient priests of the lost Jaguarmen came to him, having heard the stories and recognized him for what he his. It took 3 years for this ghost-priest to coax him to human form.

Since then B'alam has been reconnecting with the people of Tikal. He is making contacts and allies in hopes of ending the darkness that has come over his land and his people.

Lately B'alam has finally made contact with other Lunar.  He lived as a casteless Lunar for over 20 years, protected as he was from mutation by the shadowlands.  Still the Silver Pact has assigned him to Zera, perhaps as a slight to one or both of them.  She fixed him as a No Moon.  He is in the middle of the Trials she assigned-- well 1 trial actually, but it is a doozey.

Appearance

His tell are dark jaguar spots that appear on his skin everywhere but the palms and face. They match whatever color his current shape is, but are darker.

Backgrounds

  • Allies: His allies consist of the Jaguarman ghost shaman who found him when he was farral, a ghost-blooded necromancer, and a terrestrial exalt in Tikal.
  • Henchmen: mostly heroic Ghost-Jaguarmen who fight and spy for him.
  • Spies: a couple very informal network of spies in Tikal: 1 rural and 1 urban. Mostly made up of village elders and well connected middle management in the government, respectively.
  • Contacts: A few key people B'alam knows personally across Tikal. They provide, among other things, access to the "spy" networks.
